Sheriff’s Log: Jan. 5, 2023 to Jan. 11, 2023

Editor’s note: The following is the Avalon’s Sheriff’s Stations significant incidents report for the period of Jan. 5, 2023 to Jan. 11, 2023. All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Many people who are arrested do not get prosecuted in the first place and many who are prosecuted do not get convicted.

January 5, 2023

• Deputies conducted a traffic enforcement stop on the 300 block of Clemente Avenue. They issued a citation for expired registration and expired city permit.

• Deputies observed a vehicle parked blocking a fire hydrant on Lower Terrace. The vehicle was cited for the violation.

January 6, 2023

• Deputies and the fire departments responded to the Laundromat on Pebbly Beach Road regarding a structure fire. The fire was contained, extinguished and the damage was minimal. It appears a bag of rags caught fire inside the location.

• Deputies on patrol saw a golf cart blocking the alley behind Coyote Joe’s. They issued the driver a parking citation and had him move his vehicle.

• Deputies responded to Bahia Vista regarding a family disturbance call. The caller stated family members were fighting and arguing could be heard. The deputies were familiar with the family and their ongoing disagreements. The deputy and the sergeant counseled each family member and offered advice on how to remedy the problems.

January 7, 2023

• Deputies responded to the 300 block of Las Lomas Avenue regarding a petty theft report call. The victim had a package stolen from the front of her house. A possible suspect was identified and the package had been located. Detective Meyers conducted an investigation and interviewed a witness and the suspect. The case is being submitted for criminal filing with Long Beach Court.

January 8, 2023

• Deputies responded to a disturbance call in the alley behind the Glenmore Hotel. The caller stated 10-15 people were being loud and not respecting the peace of other people. The deputies arrived and the problem people scattered like cockroaches.

• Deputies responded to Hotel Atwater regarding a disturbance call. The caller stated a male adult had sprayed a fire extinguisher inside the hotel. Deputies contacted the wanna be firefighter and he was 86’d from the hotel.

January 10, 2023

• Detective Meyers was contacted at the Sheriff’s Station by a man who said he was the victim of a theft. The man stated he knew who the thief was and could prove it. Detective Meyers is currently investigating the case.

January 11, 2023

• Deputies conducted foot patrol on Crescent Avenue due to the cruise ship in port.
