Security, safety are Center’s priority

Catalina Island Medical Center is reinforcing new physical facility security protocols to offer additional safeguards to its patients, staff and visitors. The new guidelines will also help to more effectively direct individuals entering the hospital’s building to emergency room service and patient rooms.

Those needing emergency care and all visitors (including any family members of residents) are asked to enter the hospital via the lobby door at the front entrance to the hospital.

You can use the stairs at the right side of the hospital’s main door or take advantage of the recently completed handicap accessible ramp to the left of the Medical Center’s main entrance.

Visitors and residents’ family are asked to sign in at the main entrance reception window and to obtain and wear a Visitor Pass to assist staff in identifying you. In case of a fire or emergency requiring evacuation of the hospital, first responders need an accurate list of everyone who is in the building at any given time.  By working with us in this way you will be helpful in looking after this aspect of your safety.

As a reminder, in order to keep the emergency entrance clear for our paramedics, the door at the uphill (west) side of the building that we refer to as the Ambulance Entrance is now reserved solely for ambulance patients, paramedics and Fire Department personnel. Employees, walk-ins, visitors and family members will not be admitted through that door unless they are accompanying an arriving ambulance patient.

The exterior door on the back side of the hospital at the top of the ramp on the east end (closest to Physical Therapy and the Oak Room) will no longer be an entry point into the building for patients, visitors or family members.

This rear door will be locked at all times from the outside to prevent unauthorized and unregistered persons from gaining access to patients areas and administrative offices. The Medical Center is committed to excellence in patient centered care and health enrichment.

When coming to the hospital for medical services or to visit a friend or family member please follow these new guidelines, some of which may be new to you.

An enhancement to the building security that will be occurring in the coming months is the installation of a closed circuit security camera system made available through the generous support of the Catalina Island Medical Center Foundation.

The Foundation recently took action on this item and other improvements to benefit the Medical Center and the community.

As a reminder, the Medical Group Office opens Monday through Friday at 8 a.m.  Extended appointment hours (until 6:30 p.m.) are available on Monday and Tuesday evenings.  Otherwise the clinic closes at 5 p.m.
