The League Championship title came down to the last game of the league schedule. Sunset Bar & Grill took on Straight Up Builders in game one. Sunset Bar & Grill was up first and used a walk, two errors, two base hits and a three RBI home run (at the scoreboard) from Juan Hernandez to score four. Sunset Bar & Grill turned a double play to end the inning. Defense ruled the next two innings.
In the top of the fourth inning Sunset Bar & Grill added to their lead when three runs scored on four base hits and a walk. In the bottom of the fourth Sunset Bar & Grill turned another double play to end the inning and the threat of scoring from Straight Up Builders.
Marisa Morones opened the bottom of the sixth inning with a double for Straight Up Builders. A double from Uriel Castillo was followed by a base hit for two runs crossing the plate. Defense once again dominated the seventh inning, and the game ended with the score Straight Up Builders 2, Sunset Bar & Grill 7.
For Straight Up Builders Nestor Cubillas, Brandon Franco and Paul Daniel Romo contributed two hits. Uriel Castillo, Julio Chavoya, Selina Morones and Marisa Morones collected one hit.
For Sunset Bar & Grill Francisco Bravo, Gilbert Hernandez and Sergio Vallejo collected two hits. Juan Hernandez, Carmelo Lazaro, Melissa Schafer and Matilda Martinez had one hit.
Game two saw Buoys & Gulls take on a short-handed Bravo’s Landscaping. J.D. Laflin opened the inning for Buoys & Gulls with a double. Jose Octavo followed with a two RBI inside-the-park home run. Ryan Adkins followed with a solo home run.
Bravo’s Landscaping answered with five base hits and a double from Luis Lazaro to score four. Buoys & Gulls tied it up in the top of the second with an RBI double from J.D. Laflin. Bravo’s Landscaping edged ahead in the bottom of the inning with a two-run home run from Leo Aguilar. Bravo’s Landscaping ended the Buoys & Gulls threat in the third with a double play to end the inning.
In the bottom of the inning Luis Lazaro hit a solo home run for Bravo’s Landscaping. Buoys & Gulls rallied in the fourth to take the lead with four runs off an error, a walk, three base hits and a double from Jose Barreras. Bravo’s Landscaping kept pace with four runs in the bottom of the inning off a walk and four base hits.
Buoys & Gulls added a run in the fifth when Ryan Adkins hit a double and later scored. Bravo’s Landscaping used a walk and three base hits to score two in the bottom of the inning. With their last at bat, Buoys & Gulls had two outs, then a triple from J.D. Laflin followed by a base hit. The third out followed, and the game ended with the score Buoys & Gulls 10, Bravo’s Landscaping 13.
For Buoys & Gulls J.D. Laflin was four for four. Jose Octavo and Ryan Adkins collected three hits. Hugh Bevins and Alexa Morones had two hits. Ben Guzman, Jose Barreras, Ron Bevins and Rachel McCormick contributed one hit.
For Bravo’s Landscaping Leo Aguilar was five for five. Santiago Martinez, Luis Lazaro and Marco Gallegos contributed three hits. Brayan Aguilar and Alexandra Tran collected two hits, while Stephanie Martinez had one.
