The Avalon Lions Club members and their families recently gathered at the Buffalo Nickle restaurant.
On the menu, besides a tasty taco dinner with all the trimmings, was the installation of the new year’s board members and new members.
Brenda Jordahl Carel was installed by Palos Verdes Lions Club President Gerry Gains as the first female president of the Avalon Club.
Brenda’s dad, Tom Jordahl was active in the Avalon Lions Club for many years. In fact, Tom sponsored the writer of this article for Lions Club membership and I had the honor of sponsoring Brenda for her membership.
All the members of the Avalon Lions Club are excited to have Brenda as our new president and are looking forward to many more female Avalon Lions in the future.
Bill Engel, a long time Avalon Lion and his son Kenny Engel were in attendance at the Installation Dinner to help honor Tyler Engel, Bill Engel’s grandson, on his two years as the Avalon Lions Club President.
It’s amazing how many Avalon families have a tradition of serving their community through the activities of the Lions Club. We have a fun time, all the time.
Local contractor, Dave Thompson, was honored as Lion of the Year.
Dave has helped the Avalon community in many ways over the years and in 2025. He is one of the mainstays of the Lions 50-mile/50-kilometer race each January.
Recently, Dave was instrumental in the replacement of all the soft chips under the playground equipment at Haypress. The Avalon Lions purchased, inatalled and maintain this playground for the Avalon children.
The Lions Club International is the largest community service club organization in the world. We welcome new members from the Avalon community.
