The Avalon City Council voted unanimously to formally recite the facts of the June 2026 election.
Departing Councilmember Mary Schickling, who did not run for re-election, performed her final official act by casting one of the five votes to recite the results of the municipal election.
City Clerk Gabrielle Morones swore in returning Mayor Anni Marshall and returning Councilmember Michael Ponce. Morones also swore in first-time Councilmember Donna Lopez.
Marshall will serve for two years.
Marshal received 402 votes, according to Morenes’ confirmation of the Los Angeles County Certificate of Canvass.
Past council member Cinde Cassidy received the next highest number of votes, according to the Morenes document: 225. Daneil Felts received 82 votes and Grayson Kline received 206 votes.
Ponce and Lopez will serve for four years.
Ponce received 487 votes, according to the Morones document. Lopez received 433 votes. Jessica Romero received 387 votes and Bre Bussard received 243 votes.
Following the swearing in ceremony, Marshall presented Schickling with a proclamation on behalf of Avalon for her four years of service on the council. Marshall seemed to choke up as she read the proclamation. Schickling received a standing ovation. “I had no idea that this was going to be this emotional,” Schickling said.
“But I would really like to thank the entire community of Avalon for electing me in the first place. And you really came up with a great, diplomatic way to say, you were loudspoken and, kind of out of control at times,” Schickling said. She thanked council, staff, City Manager David Maistros and former Assistant City Manager Jocelyn Francis.
