The City of Avalon is partnering with Avalon Smart Homes to help encourage the community to light Avalon up with Holiday cheer. Together they have built upon the Annual City of Avalon House Decorating contest. By partnering with Avalon Smart Homes they have made it interactive, where the community gets to be the Judge.

This contest is open to all residents and homeowners within the City of Avalon. There is no fee to participate. To sign up you need to fill the application form on the //Avalonsmarthome.com/contest website. All applications must be received no later than 12 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 11. One applicant per house. Once you have signed up you will receive a phone call to schedule our representative to come take photos and a video of your completed work. It will then be posted on the Avalon Smart Homes Facebook to be shared and voted upon by “liking” it on the original post. Sooner you decorate the more likes, comments and shares you possibly can get. Voting closes on Tuesday, Dec. 13 at 5 p.m. One grand prize and four runner ups will be announced in the Islander, Avalon Smart Homes and City of Avalon’s Facebook pages, on Friday, Dec. 16.

All Participants will receive a sign for their window that announces their participation and an ornament to hang on their tree. The participants house will be pegged on a map of the //Avalonsmarthome.com/contest page, so voters and visitors alike can enjoy the spirit of the holiday. Let’s make Avalon brighter, enjoy a little community competition and show that Catalina Island is THE place to be for the Holidays!

But share in the community fundraising event, the City is allowing all non-profits to have a booth. This year’s event will have Carnival Games, Face Painting, Scarecrow Contest, Home Baked goods, live gold fish, a Pumpkin Patch etc. Thanks to a generous donation from ESG-Engineering, this year’s carnival will have a pumpkin carver, an Aerial and Fire Flow act by Cirque Lunaire, the local Avalon Park Boys, and live blues music from Roger Connelly. Come join all the fun as well as help local non-profits achieve their goals. Thursday, Oct. 20 from 5-9 p.m.
