Coyote Joe’s undefeated, Hinkley still at 1.000

After five weeks of play, Coyote Joe’s is still undefeated, and Ryan Hinkley is still perfect at the plate.

Game one of the night, between Straight Up Builders and Coyote Joe’s, was a thriller. Laura Priest of Coyote Joe’s shut down two batters in the first inning with great catches at second base. Coyote Joe’s got on the board with an RBI double from Juan De La Cruz. 

Straight Up Builders got on the board in the second inning with five runs off four base hits, a double from Alex Romero, and a triple from Bart Glass. Straight up Builders added another run in the third from back to back doubles by Chuy Sillas and Jose Cuevas. 

Coyote Joe’s got back in the game in the bottom of the third, sending four runs home off a Grand Slam inside-the-park home run from Ryan Hinkley. Coyote Joe’s tied it in the fourth when Francisco Bravo hit a triple and later scored. Straight Up Builders edged ahead in the fourth with a run home. Coyote Joe’s regained the lead with three runs crossing the plate off a base hit, doubles from Laura Preist and Ryan Hinkley and a triple from Juan De La Cruz. 

Straight Up Builders again took the lead in the top of the fifth, using a base hit, doubles from Chuy Sillas and Jose Cuevas, and a two RBI home run from Manny Hernandez to bring home four more. With time expired, Coyote Joe’s got their last at bat. Kenton Efhan started it off with an inside the park home run. Francisco Bravo hit a triple, but was thrown out trying to get back to third. Laura Preist hit a double and scored the game tying run. Two outs followed, and the game ended in a tie, 11-11.

For Straight Up Builders, Jose Cuevas was three for three. Briana Morones also had three hits. Chuy Sillas, Manny Hernandez and Alex Romero collected two hits. Bart Glass, Elias Romero, Paul Daniel Romo and Selina Morones contributed one hit. 

For Coyote Joes, Ryan Hinkley and Francisco Bravo were three for three. Laura Priest also had three hits. J.D. Laflin and Juan De La Cruz collected two hits. With one hit each were Kenton Efhan, Sean Sterling, Hugh BEvins, Ron Bevins, Victor Moreno and Amanda Younger.

Game two was an exciting contest between Catalina Express and Eric’s on the Pier. Catalina Express started the game with a three-run blast from Tyler Engel. Eric’s on the Pier followed with a walk and doubles from Beto Martin, Robert Reyes, Brandon Franco and Joe Talsky to bring home five. 

Catalina Express tied it in the second with a home run from Leo Aguilar followed by a walk and a base hit to bring home two. Eric’s on the Pier had a triple from Robert Reyes and doubles from Brandon Franco and Aimee Casillas to bring home three before an inning ending double play. Eric’s on the Pier added one more run to their lead thanks to a double from Beto Martin followed by a triple from Robert Reyes. 

In the top of the fourth, Catalina Express’ Tyler Engel hit a double and scored on the triple from Leo Aguilar. A great relay from Eric’s on the Pier caught Leo before he could cross the plate for the out. Stephanie Martinez followed with an inside the park home run. Reed Woodyard brought home the fourth run off his RBI triple. With the game tied, and time expired, Eric’s on the Pier got their last at bat. A walk off two RBI home run from Robert Reyes ended the game with the score Catalina Express 14, Eric’s on the Pier 16.

For Catalina Express, Tyler Engel and Leo Aguilar were three for three. Stephanie Martinez also had three hits. Allan Casillas, Reed Woodyard and Steven Marcy collected two hits. Joe Hernandez, Santiago Martinez and Maria Reyes had one hit.
