Since March 15th, 2020, eleven patients have been tested for possible COVID-19 at Catalina Island Medical Center (CIMC). As of Friday, April 3, one patient has tested positive for COVID-19.

In accordance with Los Angeles County Department of Public Heath (Public Health) and Centers for Disease Control (CDC) protocols and procedures, CIMC has reported this case and patient.  Public Health will manage the surveillance and tracking of this case and patient.

In accordance with the Health Officer Order for The Control Of COVID-19 Public Health Emergency Quarantine Order, the following has been implemented for the individual:

Individuals are required to quarantine themselves for the entire 14-day COVID-19 incubation period, the typical time between exposure and when symptoms and signs of the disease may develop. Quarantined persons may not leave their place of quarantine or enter any other public or private place during the period of quarantine, except to receive necessary medical care.

Public Health is conducting an investigation.  The county will keep the patients’ names confidential and the authorities will contact individuals who were in contact with the patient that tested positive.

CIMC appreciates the community’s understanding of our strict values of protecting our patient’s confidentiality. We will continue to assess the situation as it evolves and keep the community updated.

CIMC will monitor the patient daily to ensure the health and safety of our community member throughout their illness.   Our hospital, and other hospitals, will likely receive more of these patients, we will continue to follow established infection prevention protocols and precautions standard to contact and airborne illness that all our caregivers have been trained on. The safety of our patients, caregivers and community is our number one priority.

CIMC recommends exercising an abundance of caution: Wash your hands frequently, abide by the stay at home order and continue to maintain social distance until further notice.
