Local junior golfer Jose Pedroza represented Avalon High School, with 5 other Avalon golfers in the San Joaquin League Individuals Tournament this past week and for the first time in many years a Lancer golfer came away with the title. Pedroza led after the first day with Gordon Feng from Western Christian with a 2 over par 74 at Long Beach Recreation Park Golf Course.
The field was cut from 28 to 12 for the second day and two Avalon golfers, Jose Pedroza and Aaron Meza made the cut. Pedroza was tied for first and Meza was in position 4. Meza was the talk of the tournament on day 1 after getting a hole in one on the 5th hole.
The top four at the end of day 2 would go on to the CIF Regional Individuals Tournament which takes place on Thursday, May 15, at Los Robles Greens in Thousand Oaks, and the top 6 would earn 1st Team Al-League Honors.
The tournament moved to Skylinks Golf Course for day 2 of the tournament and Pedroza took charge from the beginning of the round and never looked back. He shot a 1 over par 73 and finished 4 strokes ahead of his nearest competitor, thus earning the title Golfer of the Year for the San Joaquin League.
Meza finished in position 6 and earned 1st Team All-League Honors.
Congratulations to both golfers and good luck to Jose as he participates in the 2025 CIF Individuals.
In addition to these wonderful individual accomplishments the Lancer Golf Team also was accepted into the 2025 Division 6 CIF Playoffs and will compete with 15 other teams at Meadowlark Golf Course in Huntington Beach, on Monday May 19 for a CIF title. Congratulations to our Lancer Linksters and good luck in the playoffs!
