Straight Up Builders undefeated through first round

The end of the first round of league play featured Sunset Bar & Grill and Straight Up Builders in the first game. Sunset Bar & Grill was up first and scored three runs off three base hits and an RBI triple from Tyler Engel. Straight Up Builders answered with an opening double from Chuy Sillas, followed by an error, two base hits,a double from Selina Morones, and a two RBI home run from Brandon Franco to have a total of five cross the plate.

Defense ruled the next two innings. In the fourth inning, Sunset Bar & Grill turned a walk into a run. Straight Up Builders did the same thing in the bottom of the inning. Straight Up Builders added two more runs in the fifth off an error, a base hit, and a double from Selina Morones. In the sixth inning Straight Up Builders used an error, two base hits and a double from Brandon Franco to score two more.

In the seventh and final inning Sunset Bar & Grill added another run when Melissa Schafer hit a double and survived the collision at third to score on the subsequent base hit. The game ended with the score Sunset Bar & Grill 5, Straight Up Builders 10.

For Sunset Bar & Grill Phil Lopez, Carmelo Lazaro and Teagan Machado collected two hits. Juan Hernandez, Gabriel Alvarado, Tyler Engel, Gilbert Hernandez, Sergio Vallejo, Elias Romero, Caitlin Lopez and Melissa Schafer contributed one hit.

For Straight Up Builders Brandon Franco and Selina Morones were three for three. Nestor Cubillas and Juan De La Cruz collected two hits. Chuy Sillas, Uriel Castillo and Julio Chavoya had one hit.

Game two was a close contest until the end between Buoys & Gulls and Bravo’s Landscaping. Despite a base hit and a double from J.D. Laflin, Buoys & Gulls did not score a run in the first. Bravo’s Landscaping got on the board with a run in the bottom of the inning off a double from Robert Reyes and two base hits.

Defense was the name of the game for the next two innings. In the fourth inning Buoys & Gulls got on the board when three runs scored off an error, a double from Jack Villagomez and a two RBI home run from J.D. Laflin. In the fifth inning Jose Octavo started it off with a double for Buoys & Gulls. Alexa Morones followed with a two RBI inside the park home run.

In the bottom of the inning Leo Aguilar hit a double for Straight Up Builders and later scored on a base hit. Buoys & Gulls rallied in the sixth inning. Three base hits, doubles from J.D. Laflin and Jose Octavo, and triples from Ryan Adkins and Jose Barreras brought home six.

With time expired, Bravo’s Landscaping got their last at bat. They had two base hits and doubles from Marco Gallegos, Sebastian Sanchez and Leo Aguilar to bring home four runs, but fell short with the final score Bravo’s Landscaping 6, Buoys & Gulls 11.

For Bravo’s Landscaping Leo Aguilar was three for three. Robert Reyes, Mario Jimenez and Stephanie Martinez collected two hits. Marco Gallegos and Sebastian Sanchez had one hit.

For Buoys & Gulls J.D. Laflin was three for three. Jack Villagomez, Jose Octavo, Briana Morones and Alexa Morones contributed two hits. Ryan Adkins, Hugh Bevins, Ron Bevins, Edmundo Vega and Jose Barreras collected one hit.
