Catalina CoEd softball week two featured Straight Up Builders and Buoys & Gulls in game one. Straight Up Builders got on the board in the top of the second inning when a base hit, a double from Julio Chavoya and a triple from Uriel Castillo brought home two runs.
Buoys & Gulls turned a walk into a run in the bottom of the inning. Straight Up Builders added two more in the third off two fielder’s choice and three base hits. Straight Up Builders put another run on the board in the fifth inning off two base hits and an error.
Buoys & Gulls answered with two runs off three base hits. Straight Up Builders’ Brandon Franco hit a two run home run in the sixth. Buoys & Gulls had back-to-back doubles from J.D. Laflin and Weston Leonhardi, followed by a base hit to score two.
In the seventh and final inning Straight Up Builders had two base hits and doubles from Uriel Castillo and Marisa Morones to bring home three more. With their last at bat Buoys & Gulls had two outs when Alexa Morones hit a double, but the game ended with the score Buoys & Gulls 5, Straight Up Builders 10.
For Buoys & Gulls Ryan Adkins and Hugh Bevins collected two hits. J.D. Laflin, Weston Leonhardi, Jack Villagomez, Rachel Mc Cormick, Briana Morones and Alexa Morones contributed one hit.
For Straight Up Builders Brandon Franco was three for three. Chuy Sillas, Julio Chavoya, Uriel Castillo and Maddie Hiniker collected two hits. Gustavo Aguilar, Bart Glass, Paul Daniel Romo, Selina Morones and Marisa Morones had one hit.
During the second game between Bravo’s Landscaping and Sunset Bar & Grill the drizzle started coming down harder, but softball players are hardy people, and the game continued. In the first inning Bravo’s Landscaping used an error, a sacrifice flyball, two base hits and a double from Sebastian Sanchez to bring home three runs.
In the top of the second Tyler Engel made a great layout catch at shortstop to end the Bravo’s Landscaping threat. That momentum went into the bottom of the inning where Tyler Engel led off the inning with an inside the park home run for Sunset Bar & Grill.
In the third, Bravo’s Landscaping turned a double from Robert Reyes into a run. Sunset Bar & Grill answered back with a run. Defense ruled the next two innings. In the top of the sixth inning Bravo’s Landscaping took advantage of four errors, four base hits and doubles from Marco Gallegos and Leo Aguilar to bring home seven more. With their last at bat, Sunset Bar & Grill couldn’t get any offense going, and the game ended with the score Sunset Bar & Grill 2, Bravo’s Landscaping 11.
For Sunset Bar & Grill Francisco Bravo was two for two. Tyler Engel and Omar Aguilar had one hit.
For Bravo’s Landscaping Marco Gallegos, Stephanie Martinez and Alexandra Tran collected two hits. Robert Reyes, Luis Lazaro, Sebastian Sanchez, Leo Aguilar, Mario JImenez, Brayan Aguilar and Yafet Mangesha had one hit.
