Sheriff’s Log: Sept. 9 to Sept. 15, 2021

Editor’s note: The fol­low­­­ing is the Avalon Sheriff’s Sta­tion significant incidents report for the week of Sept. 9 to Sept. 15, 2021. All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Many people who are arrested do not get prosecuted in the first place and many who are prosecuted do not get convicted.

September 9

• Deputies responded to the 100 block of Metropole Avenue regarding a business disturbance at a hotel. The caller stated the guests were refusing to check out of their room. Upon arriving at the location the guests had checked out of their room, settled their bill and left the location.

• Deputies responded the Sheriff’s Station lobby regarding a citizen complaining. The deputies contacted the citizen who complained about children riding electric scooters over 20 mph. The deputies ensured the concerned citizen they were addressing the issue with the local youth and they had begun issuing citations to violators.

September 10

• Deputies responded to the 100 block of Whittley Avenue regarding a grand theft report call. The caller stated his Rolex watch was stolen from the location. Deputies contacted the supposed victim and conducted an investigation. During the investigation it was discovered the watch was not stolen and was located in the victim’s bag.

• Deputies responded to the Avalon Pier regarding an assault with a deadly weapon report call. The victim stated while fishing in international waters approximately 26 miles west of San Clemente Island, he became involved in a verbal confrontation with another fishing vessel. The suspect and victim started yelling at each other and the victim began to move his boat away from the suspect. After the argument the suspect went into his cabin and retrieved a .22 caliber rifle. The suspect fired at the victim and hit the starboard side of his boat. The victim immediately dialed 911 and went directly to Avalon Harbor to file a report.

September 11

• A traffic report was taken for an accident that occurred on Beacon Street and Clemente Avenue. The driver of the vehicle at fault pressed the gas pedal instead of the brake and collided into another vehicle. There was minimal damage to both vehicles and no one was injured.

• Deputies responded to the 150 block of Middle Terrace regarding a possible suspicious person. The caller stated she heard someone in her garage and the light was on. Deputies checked the location and were unable to locate anyone inside the garage. They also determined no crime had occurred at the location.

• While patrolling by Descanso Beach Garden, deputies were contacted regarding an allegedly intoxicated female sitting in a chair slumped over. The deputies contacted the suspect and noticed she had a strong odor of alcohol emitting from her breath and body and couldn’t stand without losing her balance. Deputies asked if she needed a ride to her hotel or if they could call someone to take care of her, and she did not answer their questions. Monica Rockefeller, 52, of Santa Rosa, was arrested on suspicion of public intoxication and booked at Avalon Sheriff’s Station.

• Deputies responded to a disturbance at the fuel dock. The caller stated several people from the Wine Mixer were arguing on the fuel dock. The disturbing parties had dispersed prior to the deputies’ arrival and there was no evidence of a crime.

September 12

• Deputies on foot patrol noticed a female arguing in front of the El Galleon restaurant with the manager. The female was trying to leave the location with her alcoholic beverage and was told she could not do that. The female refused to listen and started yelling at him. When contacted by deputies, they noticed she had a strong odor of alcohol emitting from her breath and person, was loud and boisterous, and had difficulty standing on her own. The deputies detained her pending their investigation and ultimately arrested Shannon Campbell, 39, of Marina Del Rey, on suspicion of public intoxication. The suspect was transported and booked at Avalon Sheriff’s Station.

September 13

• Deputies responded to Vons parking lot regarding a possible vehicle theft. The informant on the call stated he was detaining a man who attempted to steal his golf cart. The deputies conducted an investigation and interviewed all of the parties. They determined no crime had occurred and the possible suspect had mistakenly attempted to drive the wrong golf cart.

• Deputies were summoned to the Radio Station regarding a person living behind the building. The deputies contacted the informant and the man living behind the station and advised them both of trespass laws and citizen arrest procedures.

• Deputies received a suspicious person call on the 100 block of Clarissa Avenue. The caller stated male adults were working on motorcycles and painting them in front of the location.

The deputies arrived and recognized it to be an ongoing problem at the location.

They contacted the disturbing parties and warned them regarding their behavior.

September 15

• Deputies responded to a fight call on the 100 block of Sumner Avenue. The caller stated several people were fighting at the location. The deputies arrived and determined there was no crime at the location and the disturbance was a verbal argument only.
