SHERIFF’S LOG – May 8 to May 14

May 8

• Deputies detained a 16-year-old juvenile for a truancy violation.  The juvenile was supposed to be in school.  The juvenile also had a smoking device in his possession.  The juvenile was returned to school and the case will be presented to the juvenile court.

• Deputies received a call that a bait tank had been stolen from a boat in the Avalon Harbor.  During the investigation, deputies learned that the bait tank was not actually stolen but was misplaced.

May 9

• Deputies responded to a call of two people trespassing in the 300 block of Wrigley Road.  Two individuals were sitting on the roof of a stranger’s residence enjoying the view.  Deputies made the individuals leave the property.

May 10

• A victim reported that he had plugged a “weed wacker” battery charger into an outlet in the 128 block of Sumner Avenue.  When he returned an hour later, the battery charger was missing.

May 11

• A victim came to the Sheriff’s station and reported that someone stole a canvas bag containing personnel items from her golf cart.  The victim’s golf cart was parked on Pebbly Beach Road.

May 12

• Deputies arrested Rudy Perez of Avalon on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.  The incident occurred on Avalon Canyon Road in front of Bird Park.

May 13

• Deputies received a call at Tremont Hall that someone had entered the building through an open window and was trespassing.  Deputies responded and contacted a group of teens that were practicing for a party.  No crimes were violated.

May 14

• Deputies received a call that a victim lost her wallet while at Descanso Beach Club.  The wallet was green containing the victim’s out of state driver’s license, credit cards, and a small amount of money.  If found, please turn it into the Avalon Sheriff’s Station.

Please welcome the new Avalon Sheriff’s Station Sergeant Brian Hill to the island.  Sergeant Hill has been working at the Avalon Sheriff’s Station one weekend a month for the past year.  He brings a friendly attitude and years of law enforcement experience.
