Sheriff’s Log: July 21 to July 27, 2022

The fol­low­­­ing is the Avalon Sheriff’s Sta­tion significant incidents report for the period of July 21 to July 27, 2022.

All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Many people who are arrested do not get prosecuted in the first place and many who are prosecuted do not get convicted.

July 21

• Deputies responded to a suspicious man at metropole Avenue and Crescent Avenue. The caller stated a male adult with no shirt on was throwing trash and yelling. The deputies contacted the man and asked him to help keep Avalon beautiful and pick up his trash. The man was cooperative.

• Deputies responded to the 300 block of Eucalyptus Avenue regarding loud karaoke music at a residence. The deputies contacted the American Idol hopefuls and asked them to lower the music. They were cooperative.

July 22

• Deputies on patrol issued 3 citations for vehicles with expired registration. The location of the violations was the 200 block of Whittley Avenue and 300 block of Metropole Avenue.

July 23

• Deputies responded to the 100 block of Catalina Avenue regarding a disturbance. The caller said a female wearing a bikini was throwing items at the location. Deputies arrived and were advised the female was removed from the bar and taken by her friends to their boat.

• Deputies were patrolling Metropole Avenue and Beacon Street at 1am. They observed a juvenile walking the streets and detained him. They cited the juvenile and his mother for curfew violation.

• Deputies responded to the Metropole Market Place regarding a suspicious person. The caller stated the Garlic Man was yelling and screaming at patrons who were walking down the street. The deputies contacted the man and escorted him to his boat. They counseled him about his behavior and how to treat others.

• Deputies responded to the Bluewater Grill regarding a business disturbance. The caller stated four male adults were arguing with staff. The deputies arrived and the mischievous men had left the location prior to their arrival.

• Deputies were again called to the Bluewater Grill for a disturbance call. The informant stated two of the men from the earlier call had returned and pushed an employee. The deputies contacted the men and immediately recognized the symptoms of being under the influence of alcohol. The deputies conducted an investigation and arrested Noe Guzman, 46, of Phoenix, Arizona, and Jose Bedolla 39, Phoenix, Arizona, on suspicion of being drunk in public. They were booked at Avalon Sheriff’s Station.

July 24

• Deputies responded to a disturbance call on Crescent Avenue. The caller stated drunk people were throwing shoes at their hotel window. The deputies responded and were unable to locate the shoeless perpetrators. They had beat feet prior to the deputies arriving.

• Deputies responded to the Green Pleasure Pier regarding a disturbance. The informant stated the “Garlic Guy” was harassing employees and yelling at them. The deputies checked the surrounding area and were unable to Mr. Garlic but they know who he is and will counsel him regarding his behavior lately.

• Deputies were contacted at Avalon Sheriff’s Station regarding a battery report call. A citizen reported she had been assaulted by a known suspect while at a local bar. The deputies authored a report, and the case is under investigation by Avalon detectives.

July 25

• Deputies responded to a business disturbance call on the 100 block of Clarissa Ave. The caller stated two male adults were attempting to fight with juveniles at the location. The deputies contacted the men and determined no hands had been thrown but that one adult displayed signs of being drunk. The deputies conducted an investigation and arrested Flavio Onofre 25, Garden Grove on suspicion of being drunk in public.

July 26

• Deputies responded to an assault call at Crescent Avenue and Catalina Avenue. The caller stated a female was unconscious after being punched in the face by a man. The man and woman were detained for a domestic violence investigation. The deputies and detectives conducted an investigation and interviewed multiple witnesses who observed the male assault the woman. Carl Brandt, 41, San Pedro was arrested on suspicion of spousal assault and was booked at Avalon Sheriff’s Station.

While the male suspect was being transported, the female victim ran in front of the police car and began screaming and hitting the hood with her fists. The woman displayed signs of being under the influence of alcohol. Porshe Delacerda, 31, San Pedro was arrested on suspicion of being drunk in public and booked at Avalon Station.

July 27

• Deputies responded to Eucalyptus Avenue regarding a found 3 year girl at the location. The deputies contacted a resident who found a 3 year old girl who appeared to be lost.

The child was reunited with her mom and there was no evidence of a crime.
