Sheriff’s Log: Feb. 20 to Feb. 26

Editor’s note: The following is the Avalon Sheriff’s Station significant incidents report for the week of Feb. 20 to Feb. 26, 2019.
All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
Many people who are arrested do not get prosecuted in the first place and many who are prosecuted do not get convicted.

February 20
• On Feb. 14, 2019, a victim told the Avalon Sheriff’s station that he was assaulted by Frankie Solorio of Avalon. On Feb. 20, 2019, deputies located the suspect at 240 Sumner Ave. He was placed under arrest on suspicion of the assault. He was also arrested on suspicion of possessing a large quantity of methamphetamine with the intent to sale it, a narcotic scale, possession of a narcotic smoking pipe and empty baggies.

February 21
• The Sheriff’s Department’s Arson and Explosives Detail came to the island to inspect a suspicious device that was found on a beach on the backside of the island.
Deputies made the device safe.
• Deputies arrested Jaime Rangel of Avalon on suspicion of possessing methamphetamine after he was allegedly smoking marijuana in public near Metropole Avenue and Tremont Street.

February 22
• Deputies issued a citation to a motorist for failing to stop at the stop sign at Catalina Avenue and Beacon Street.

February 23
• Deputies responded to the 200 block of Crescent Avenue regarding a customer that refused to pay her hotel bill. A friend ended up paying the bill for the customer.

February 24
• Deputies responded to Lower Terrace Road regarding a neighbor disturbance.
Deputies determine no crimes were committed and the situation was civil in nature.

February 25
• Deputies arrested Matthew Jones of Avalon based on an outstanding $25,000 arrest warrant at 1 Cabrillo Mole. The warrant was for allegedly being under the influence of narcotics.

February 26
• Avalon Sheriff’s Station personnel attended a Mental Health training class sponsored by the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health.
The event was for the public and held at Tremont Hall.
