SHERIFF’S LOG

Editor’s note: The following is the Avalon Sheriff’s Station significant incidents report for the week of Dec. 12 to Dec. 18, 2018. All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Many people who are arrested do not get prosecuted in the first place and many who are prosecuted do not get convicted.

 

December 12

  • Deputies responded to the 200 block of Marilla Avenue and contacted a person who said he was assaulted while at the Marlin Club. Deputies conducted an investigation and determined the caller was actually the person who assaulted the victim. The case will be presented to the District Attorney.

 

December 13

  • While conducting a patrol check in the line to the Catalina Express boat, deputies issued an adult male from Lakewood a citation for smoking marijuana in public.

 

December 14

  • The Avalon Harbor Department hosted a first responder familiarization with the island. The United States Coast Guard, the Sheriff’s Department, and personnel from the Catalina Express participated. First responders working together to keep our community safe.

 

December 15

  • Deputies responded to Beacon Street and Sumner Avenue regarding a female crying. Deputies contacted her and determine she had been involved in a verbal argument with her boyfriend. There were no crimes violated.

 

December 16

  • Deputies conducted a probation search of a probationer at Third Street and Clarissa Avenue. The probationer was found in compliance of his conditions of probation.

 

December 17

  • Deputies contacted an informant regarding a possible elder abuse incident. Deputies are working with Adult Protective Services to ensure the individual is safe. A preliminary investigation showed no crimes had been violated.

 

December 18

  • Deputies and the fire departments received a 911 call of a bicyclist involved in a traffic collision at Casino Way and Crescent Avenue. The bicyclist was carrying scuba gear when the dive equipment became entangled with the bicycle’s wheel causing the male to crash. His injuries were minor.

Safety Note:  After opening your holiday presents, do not leave the boxes next to your trash cans. It tells criminals that you have a brand new television in your residence. Tear down the boxes and recycle them inside a dumpster.
