Avalon deputies receive Sheriff’s highest honor

The following is the Avalon Sheriff’s Station significant incidents report for the week of Oct. 28 to Nov. 8.

“It is important to note that no assumption of criminal guilt or affiliation should be drawn from the content of the information provided in this report,” said Capt. Doug Fetteroll, commander of the Station.  “Many people who get arrested do not get convicted or even charged with crimes for which they have been arrested.”

Avalon deputies receive Medal of Valor

Deputies Jeffrey Flotree and Daniel Torres received the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s highest award this past week.  They each received the department’s Medal of Valor for their brave and courageous actions during the tragic storm on Dec. 30, 2014, which took the lives of two Avalon residents.

October 28

• At 10:45 a.m., Jonathan Torres, 21, an Avalon resident, was arrested on suspicion of an alleged assault.

• An Avalon resident reported the unauthorized use of his credit card information.

October 29

• At 1:48 p.m., Eric Rand, 41, a resident of Two Harbors, was arrested on suspicion of an alleged assault.

October 30

• At 7 p.m., deputies took custody of a mentally ill person on Airport Road near Middle Ranch Road who had been detained by Catalina Island Conservancy Rangers.  

October 31

• No significant incidents.

November 1

• No significant incidents.

November 2

• A 16 year old high school student was detained on suspicion of possessing marijuana on school grounds.

November 3

• An Avalon resident reported personal property was allegedly stolen from her residence.

November 4

• Marijuana was found on a cruise ship and turned in to the Sheriff’s Station.

November 5

• At 11:10 a.m., David Bryan, 39, an Avalon resident, was arrested on suspicion of being under the influence of a controlled substance.

November 6

• At 9:50 p.m., Joshua Olsen, 31, an Avalon resident, was arrested on suspicion of making criminal threats.

November 7

• No significant incidents.

November 8

• At 10:40 p.m., Andres Gutierrez, 22, an Avalon resident, was arrested on suspicion of making terrorist threats.
