Sheriff’s Log: April 8-April 14, 2020

Editor’s note: The following is the Avalon Sheriff’s Station significant incidents report for the week of April 8 to April 14, 2020. All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Many people who are arrested do not get prosecuted in the first place and many who are prosecuted do not get convicted.

April 8

• Deputies are conducting a vandalism investigation after a suspect went to another male’s residence in the 160 block of Metropole Avenue and tried breaking into the residence to assault the male, ultimately damaging property.

The investigation is ongoing.

• Deputies are c sonducting an investigation where a suspect(s) used a stolen credit card to purchase items at several businesses in the city of Avalon. The investigation is ongoing.

April 9

• Deputies received a call of electrical wires that had fallen. The wires could be seen from the 200 block of Descanso Avenue. Deputies checked the area and no downed wires were found.

April 10

• Deputies received a call of possible deer poachers in the interior of the island. Deputies responded with Conservancy Rangers. One individual was contacted. There was no evidence he was involved in the illegal deer poaching.

April 11

• Deputies responded to the 300 block of Tremont Street regarding another domestic violence call. Deputies arrested Kallen Little from Avalon on suspicion of assault.

Deputies served a search warrant at the same residence and took possession of 13 firearms.

April 12

• Deputies were called back to the 300 block of Tremont Street regarding a keep the peace call while one party picked up personal belongings. No crimes were violated.

April 13

• Deputies were called to the Catalina Express due to a passenger not wearing a face covering causing a disturbance.

The man wore a face covering to get on the boat then removed it and would not put it back on. He was removed from the boat for causing a disturbance. (All passengers are required to wear a face covering on the Catalina Express.)

April 14

• Deputies contacted customers at Vons who wanted to enter the store without wearing a face covering.

The “Safer at Home” Order now requires customers entering an essential business to wear a face covering.

Remember weed abatement and brush clearance deadline regulations to be complied with between April 1 and June 1, 2020.
