Leo’s Catalina Drugstore has announced an adjustment to the operating hours of its pharmacy. Beginning Saturday, Oct. 4, 2025, the pharmacy will be open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m.–6 p.m. It will no longer offer pharmacy hours on Saturdays. The retail hours will remain unchanged.
Pharmacies across the country—large and small—are facing shrinking reimbursement rates for prescription drugs along with the growing use of online refills and mail-order prescriptions which has shifted customer habits away from in-store services. This change in pharmacy hours allows Leo’s to focus on long-term sustainability and to better align with patient demand during the busiest times of the week.
“We know that Saturday hours have been a convenience for some members of our community,” said Cameron Hubert, director of Retail Services, Catalina Island Health. “This decision was not made lightly. By making this adjustment now, we are strengthening our ability to maintain high-quality pharmacy services for our community well into the future.”
Patients are encouraged to plan ahead for their prescription needs by requesting refills earlier in the week if medications will be needed over the weekend. Leo’s pharmacy staff are available to help patients adjust their refill schedules to minimize any inconvenience.
Any patients seen in the emergency department that require a prescription will be provided with a 72-hour supply and the remainder of the prescription will be sent to a pharmacy of their choice.
Leo’s is also working to launch a consultation hotline for questions and concerns that arise during the weekend. The hotline will be able to assist with questions about side effects, drug interactions, missed doses, clarifying prescriber instructions, and any emergency issues related to medications. CIH and Leo’s will share specific hotline details as soon as it is up and running.
Catalina Island Health and Leo’s Catalina Drug Store remain committed to supporting the health and well-being of the island community through dependable care and services. As always, if you experience a medical emergency, please go directly to the hospital for immediate assistance.
