For the past ten weeks, island kids have been gathering on the Green Pier every weekend to take part in the free Kids Fishing Derby, hosted by the Catalina Outdoor Adventure Club. The derby has been a place for youth to learn, laugh, and enjoy the simple joy of casting a line into Avalon Bay.

To cap off the summer, the club took the adventure to the next level — treating 28 local kids to a free charter fishing trip. For many, it was their first time fishing off a boat, and the excitement of reeling in fish out on the open water made for memories they won’t soon forget.

The summer fishing program represents just one of the many ways the organization is working to change lives through adventure, and shows just how much kids can gain from time spent outside.

The club is looking forward to more adventures ahead and hopes to keep building opportunities like these for Catalina’s young people.
