More than 400 community members and visitors gathered this season at the Inn on Mount Ada for Avalon’s beloved Holiday Open House, creating a festive afternoon filled with warmth, generosity, and island spirit. The event was proudly co-sponsored by the Catalina Island Foundation and the Catalina Island Company, continuing a cherished tradition of bringing the Avalon community together to celebrate the start of the holiday season in a setting that overlooks the very heart of our island.
Guests from all walks of life — longtime residents, local leaders, families, and visiting friends — enjoyed scrumptious cookies, hot coffee, and our famous Catalina Island Wassail as the afternoon unfolded beneath a perfect sunny autumn sky. Laughter, conversation, and the gentle glow of the holiday atmosphere filled the historic property as attendees lingered and reconnected, strengthening the bonds that make Avalon such a close-knit community.
A highlight of the afternoon was the Catalina Island Foundation’s presentation of two important community grants. A $20,000 grant was awarded to the city of Avalon in support of the new Tech Center, a project championed by David Hart to expand educational and technological resources for local youth.
“We’re very grateful, it’s allowed us to move up our timeline and hopefully have something up by this summer,” City Community Services Director David Hart said.
A second grant was presented to the Avalon School Interact Club to assist the students in their ongoing efforts to provide meaningful community service, including support for a overtown shelter. Funds raised at the event will go to support Avalon Rotary Club’s and The Catalina Island Women’s Forum’s community and school programs.
With more than 30 local volunteers contributing their time, talent, and energy, the Holiday Open House was truly a community collaboration. From hospitality and logistics to setup and guest support, the event reflected the shared commitment that defines Avalon. As neighbors gathered in camaraderie and fellowship during this joyful holiday tradition, the Inn on Mount Ada once again proved to be not just a historic landmark, but a living center of community connection.
