‘Love Factor’ showcases Santa Catalina Island’s entertainers

Welcome to “The Love Factor.” Island resident and Avalon Schools PTA member Santa Dominguez recalled seeing such modern TV talent shows as “American Idol,” and others and had an idea.

“I started thinking of showcasing some of the talent we have right here in Avalon as a way to help earn funds for our school,” she said. That idea blossomed last year when Dominguez staged the first version of “The Love Factor,” a love-themed show with home-grown entertainment based on Valentine’s Day.

The first one was held last year and if anything was a lot of fun for those who participated according to Dominguez.

“Last year we had he school band and some other people who showed up to perform,” she said. “One person did a very nice song to their husband.” She thought the show might have potential. Dominguez and her show are returning for another year with a new performance of “The Love Factor.”

“This year we have opened it up to participation from the community at large,” she said.

“The first year it was mostly students, faculty and their family members that we were asking to participate,” she said.

This year’s show will be held at 6 p.m. on Feb. 12 in the Avalon Schools Auditorium.  Dominguez said it would be a bit more structured than the first one last year and take the performances to the next level.

She said she sees the show as a pioneering effort toward creating a source of Island entertainment hat can help fill the void in the activities that Avalon has to offer. “Maybe one day we could have a performance that will fill the Casino Theatre,” Dominguez said.

Dominguez said that although the official audition date may have passed, she is willing to allow auditions by appointment by calling her at (310) 510 9433.
