The Avalon High boys soccer team opened the playoffs on Thursday (past our press time), with a home game against Whitney High of Cerritos. The Lancers were the Academy League Champions this year, after going 7-0-1 in league play. They were 9-2-3 overall. A win would send the Lancers to the mainland for a second-round game on Saturday.
