Club collected funds for toys, hats, gloves, and baby clothes to be distributed

In early January, eight Avalon Rotary Club members and spouses including Nicole Hohenstein, Bryce Noll, Jennifer Rivera, Linda Salo, Connie Stewart, Lourdes and Adrian Thoricht, and Rita Whitaker traveled to Ensenada to work in partnership with four other Southern California Rotary Clubs and Ensenada Club Rotario Centenario.

This year for the first time, friends from the San Clemente Sunrise Rotary Club traveled with our club members. The participating Rotary Clubs helped assemble and distribute over 1,000 food baskets, blankets, and toys to 13 different remote and poverty-stricken areas of Ensenada. Many of the needy families live in cardboard houses with no electricity, and limited bathroom facilities. The food baskets and blankets are given out in January to help celebrate the “Dia de los Reyes,” a Christian feast that commemorates gifts being brought to the baby Jesus by the Three Kings.

The recipients were overjoyed and thankful for everything they received, particularly the warm blankets that are donated each year by the Avalon Rotary Club. In lieu of a gift exchange at their annual Christmas party, the Avalon Rotary club collects funds for toys, hats, gloves, and baby clothes to be distributed in Ensenada.
