On April 30, six Avalon Lancers participated in the San Joaquin League Golf Individuals at Recreation Park in Long Beach, against the five other teams in our league. Only the top 12 and ties would move on to the next day.

Avalon senior Danny Pedroza shot a two-over par 74 and seniors Juan Chavoya and Ulises Zavala both shot a five over par 77 to move on to the next day. Seniors Jose Barragan and Carmen Garcia both just missed the cut as did Freshman Uriel Hernandez.

Day two was held at Tijeras Creek in Rancho Santa Margarita. Twelve players were going to compete for the top seven spots to move on to the first round of CIF Individuals. Taehoon Song from Anaheim Discovery shot 8 under for the two days to be the San Joaquin League Champion. Second Place was Paul from Anaheim Discovery with a total of 4 under for the two days. Third place was Pat from Anaheim with a total of 4 over par for the two days.

Avalon’s Danny Pedroza held his own and finished tied for fourth with a total of only 5 over par for the two days. Unfortunately, Juan finished in eighth place just out of moving on.

Avalon also qualified as a team to play in the team CIF Championship on Monday, May 13 at 1 p.m. at Elkins Ranch in Fillmore.
