The cruise ship visitor count alone was up

Avalon visitor counts for June 2025 were 2.6% lower than June 2024, according to data recently released by Love Catalina Island Tourism Authority.

Love Catalina counted 129,854 arrivals in June.

Visitor counts were down for passengers arriving by sea, by cross channel carriers, by private passenger boats, and by air.

However, cruise ship visitor counts increased a bit (see details below).

“June’s total arrival count was above the three, five and ten-year averages by 3.3%, 8.4% and 21.0% respectively. Cross Channel Counts above include 3,414 arrivals at Two Harbors this year and 3,578 last year. June 2025 had four Saturdays vs. five in 2024 with Saturday being the peak day for arrivals,” according to the Love Catalina website.

  • “Passengers arriving by sea in June totaled 127,185, down by 2.6% for the month compared to last year,” according to the Love Catalina website.
  • “Cross Channel Passenger counts were down 4.3%, a decrease of 3,773 people. Cross Channel Counts above include arrivals at Two Harbors,” according to Love Catalina.

“June Cross Channel Passenger counts were above the three and ten-year averages by 0.7% and 10.0% respectively, but below the five-year average by 0.5%,” according to Love Catalina.

“Cross Channel Passengers made up 64.37% of total monthly arrivals,” the Love Catalina website said.

“Cruise passenger counts totaled 37,533, up from 36,927 last year by 1.6% or 606 visitors,” the Love Catalina website said.

“2025 had the highest Cruise Passenger volume for the month @37,533 ,” the Love Catalina website said.

“June Cruise Passenger counts were above the three, five and ten-year averages by 10.8%, 43.7% and 73.2% respectively,” according to the Tourism Authority website. (It’s the same website.)

“Cruise Passengers made up 28.90% of total monthly arrivals,” according to the Tourism Authority website.

“The number of Cruise Ships calling on Avalon in June was 10,” according to the Tourism Authority website.

“2025 had the highest number of ships calling @ 10,” according to the Tourism Authority website.

“June typically has 8 ships call,” the website said.

“Private Boater Passenger counts totaled 5,900, down by 4.0% from last year’s total of 6,148,” the website said.

“2017 had the highest passenger volume for the month @ 7,256,” the website said.

“2015 had the lowest passenger volume month @ 5,140,” the website said.

“June Private Boater Passenger counts were above the five-year average by 6.1% but below the three and ten-year averages by 0.3% and 89.2% respectively,” the website said.

“Private Boaters made up 4.54% of total monthly arrivals,” the website said.

“June’s number of Vessels Anchored was down 56.5% @ 50 from 115 last year,” the website said.

“June was below the three, five and ten-year averages by 45.3%, 41.6% and 35.5% respectively,” the website said.

“June’s number of Vessels on Moorings was 719, up 20.2% from last year’s 598,” the website said.

“June was above the three and ten-year averages by 3.5% and 4.6% respectively, but below the five-year average by 9.2%,” the website said.

“Combined in-bound air passenger counts for June totaled 2,079, down by 2.4% from 2,775 in 2024,” the website said.

“Private Aircraft Passengers (Airport in the Sky) totaled 1,242, down 11.2% vs. last year @ 1,398,” the website said.

“Private Aircraft Passengers made up .96% of total monthly arrivals,” the Love Catalina website said.

“Helicopter Passenger counts totaled 1,427, up year-over-year by 4.2% with 1,369 in 2024,” the Love Catalina website said.
