Triathlon event is still in need of volunteers in many areas

On Saturday, Nov. 2, the Catalina Island Chamber of Commerce and Visitor’s Bureau is partnering with Renegade Race Series to produce the 35th annual Catalina Island Triathlon, Duathlon & 5k Run/Walk. The 2019 event is presented by Quality Carriers West Coast. In 2018 the event hosted approximately 500 athletes from 15 states and three countries in ages ranging from 12 to 90 years old.

“Increasingly Catalina Island is becoming well known for bucket list sporting events like the annual triathlon. Athletes from around the world are putting Catalina Island on their list of places to visit and participate in a number of high and low endurance activities set in a spectacular island environment. Making participation even more remarkable is the challenging terrain that is found both in and around Avalon, the island’s only city,” said Jim Luttjohann, president and CEO of the Catalina Island Chamber of Commerce & Visitors Bureau.

“We are excited to return to Catalina Island,” said Jonathan Pauley, race director for Renegade Racing. “This late season event is an iconic Southern California triathlon. The community loves it for the destination appeal, which makes it perfect for a fall weekend getaway. There’s so much for participants and their families to do while on Catalina. Avalon hotels, restaurants and excursion hosts welcome our participants with affordable and exciting packages for race weekend to make it a true destination race – all within a short trip from the mainland.”

Race registration is available at catalinaislandtriathlon.com.

Volunteers are needed for Nov. 1 and 2 for registration and T-shirt distribution, body markers, course monitors, water stations, timing, transition area and more. Register online to volunteer at https://vmodcui.active.com/volunteer/jobs?eventGroupId=1632504.
