The Catalina Island Festival of Art wrapped up its 66th year over the weekend of Sept. 19-21. The festival brought in local artists and artists from around the country to share their works and even showcase some artists working on the spot.

Torrance-based artist Ron Libbrecht, whose work has been featured on the event’s poster in recent years, teamed up with Ron Hust, a Seal Beach based artist to work on a canvas painting at the same time. They termed the work as being done by Ron-squared. They painted several Catalina scenes on the spot and put on an impressive display of artist teamwork.

“It’s very unique that two artists can work on the same canvas at the same time and still get along,” Hust said.

Overall, the event had 54 vendors of mixed media throughout the show. Mother Nature decided on Sunday she wanted to see the show, so she made a quick visit to let us know she had arrived. With her visit she brought a few mermaids and sea creatures to promote the upcoming Mermaid Festival Oct 25-26.

On Saturday they had the awards ceremony, starting with the Youth Art Show. Mr. Sean was in charge of the youth portion of the show and all artists walked away with some prize.
