We are fortunate, on our little piece of paradise, to have a place for our canine companions to socialize and relieve themselves. Our dog park is small but heavily used by both residents and visitors.
A question which arises about the understanding of what takes place in the dog park and elsewhere in town.
When we take our dog for a walk, we expect them to relieve themselves, outside instead of, our homes.
After relieving themselves, what do we do? Do we pick up the waste they leave? If not, why not?
Apparently, the concept of cleaning up after our pets is something quite a few do not understand. Frequently dog waste is left on the sidewalk, curbs and street. Additionally the waste is left on the little grass and ground that we have in town.
Why can’t the waste be picked up? When you take your dog out, there should be no surprise that they will relieve themselves. After all, that’s why we take them for a “walk”?
Pet/dog bags are a very inexpensive method for removing and disposing of the waste. There are several “pet waste stations” around town, including in the dog park. Yes, sometimes there are no bags available. What to do? Bring your own bag and clean up after your fur baby!
Complaints that the city doesn’t provide the bags is a strange comment, after all the city did not require anyone to have a pet.
Sometimes visitors will not be considerate enough to pick up after their pet.
This is an unfortunate fact of living here. Perhaps offering a bag to the visitor for their use would make a bit of a difference. We have to accept that all will not be that courteous but there is no reason for residents to do the same.
Most residents do try to keep our town clean and their efforts are greatly appreciated.
