Catalina Express, Coyote Joe’s win last week’s softball games

In game one of last week’s softball league play, Eric’s on the Pier faced Catalina Express. Eric’s on the Pier scored a run in the first inning. Nestor Cubillas hit a double and Stephanie Martinez hit a triple in the bottom of the inning to score two for Catalina Express. Catalina Express added another run in the second off the RBI triple of Steven Marcy.

In the bottom of the third Catalina Express added six more runs off three base hits, a double from Allan Casillas, a home run from Tyler Engel and an inside the park homerun from Leo Aguilar. Eric’s on the Pier added a run in the fourth off two base hits and an error. Catalina Express added a run off the RBI double from Maria Reyes.

The fifth inning saw three runs scored for Eric’s on the Pier. Catalina Express answered back with five runs off a three-run home run from Tyler Engel, a base hit followed by a triple from Leo Aguilar, who later scored. In the top of the sixth with time expired, Eric’s on the Pier rallied with an error, doubles from Robert Reyes and Brandon Franco, a base hit and a walk to score five runs, but fell short of the win, 10-15.

For Eric’s on the Pier, Aimee Casillas had three hits. Robert Reyes, Brandon Franco and Edmundo Vega had two hits. Beto Martin, Joe Talsky and Kyle Ostentoski contributed one hit. For Catalina Express, Allan Casillas, Leo Aguilar and Stephanie Martinez were all three for three. Nestor Cubillas, Tyler Engel and Maria Reyes collect two hits. Steven Marcy, LeeAnn Little and Chela Hernandez contributed one hit.

The second game of the night featured Coyote Joe’s and Straight Up Builders. Coyote Joe’s started the game with back-to-back home runs from J.D. Laflin and Ryan HInkley. One more run scored for a total of three in the inning.

Coyote Joe’s Hugh Bevins opened the second with a triple and later scored. Straight Up Builders got on the board in the bottom of the second. Five base hits, doubles from Chuy Sillas, Jose Cuevas and Selina Morones added up to eight runs.

Coyote Joe’s regained the lead in the third with seven runs off five base hits and two inside the park homeruns from Ryan Hinkley and Hugh Bevins. Straight Up Builders answered with a three-run home run from Gabriel Alvarado. Coyote Joe’s kept the pressure on with six runs in the fourth off three base hits, a double from Ryan Hinkley, a triple from Ron Bevins and a home run from Kenton Efhan.

Straight Up Builders scored one in the bottom of the inning. In the fifth and final inning, Coyote Joe’s added an insurance run. Straight Up Builders got their last at bat and brought home two runs. The game ended with the score Straight Up Builders 14, Coyote Joe’s 18.

For Straight Up Builders Jose Cuevas, Alex Romero, Elias Romero and Paul Daniel Romo were two for two. Gabriel Alvarado, Selina Morones and Briana Morones also had two hits. Chuy Sillas, Daniel Paradisi, Manny Hernandez and Leah Quarnstrom contributed one hit. For Coyote Joe’s J.D. Laflin, Ryan Hinkley and Francisco Bravo were three for three. Kenton Efhan, Hugh Bevins and Ron Bevins all had two hits. Sean Sterling, Amanda Younger and Jennifer Williams collected one hit.
