The tournament for Catalina CoEd Softball began last Thursday. League Champions Buoys & Gulls took on Straight up Builders in the first game. Buoys & Gulls opened the game with an inside-the-park home run from J.D. Laflin.
In the top of the second inning Buoys & Gulls used six base hits, a walk and an error to have six cross the plate. Buoys & Gulls kept the pressure on in the third inning. Four base hits, a double from Jack VIllagomez and a home run from Ryan Adkins put another four on the board.
Straight Up Builders got on the board in the bottom of the inning. Two errors, two base hits, doubles from Juan De La Cruz and Sergio Vallejo, and triples from Maddie Hiniker and Matilda Martinez brought home six.
In the seventh and final inning Buoys & Gulls used two base hits, a double from J.D. Laflin and a home run from Julian Tejeda to put another four on the board. Straight Up Builders got their last at bat, but left a runner stranded at second. The game ended with the score Straight Up Builders 6, Buoys & Gulls 15.
For Straight Up Builders Juan De La Cruz, Chris Arnold and Sergio Vallejo collected two hits. Juan Hernandez, Chuy Sillas, Maddie Hiniker, Tiffany Credel and Matilda Martinez all had one hit. For Buoys & Gulls J.D. Laflin was four for four. Mario Jimenez had three hits. Julian Tejeda, Ryan Adkins, Jack Villagomez, Hugh Bevins and Caitlin Lopez all contributed two hits.
Ron Bevins, Uriel Castillo and Paul Daniel Romo collected one hit.
Game two was between Bravo’s Landscaping and Sunset Bar & Grill. Bravo’s Landscaping opened with back-to-back doubles from Jose Octavo and Marco Gallegos. A base hit made sure both came home. Nestor Cubillas had a great stretch at first to get the third out and end the Sunset Bar & Grill threat in the bottom of the inning.
Sunset Bar & Grill put five runs on the board in the bottom of the second inning off an inside-the-park home run from Jose Barreras, an error, a two RBI home run from Phil Lopez, a double from Gustavo Gutierrez and an inside-the-park home run from Alexandra Tran.
Jose Octavo collected an RBI from his double for Bravo’s Landscaping in the third. Two base hits, a home run from Gabriel Alvarado and a triple from Tyler Engel brought home three more runs for Sunset Bar & Grill in the bottom of the fourth.
Sunset Bar & Grill kept the offense going in the fifth, with three more runs off two base hits and doubles from Alexandra Tran and Joe Hernandez. In the top of the sixth Bravo’s Landscaping used a double from Gustavo Aguilar and three errors to add two more on the board.
Time expired and the game ended with the score Bravo’s Landscaping 5, Sunset Bar & Grill 14.
For Bravo’s Landscaping Jose Octavo and Chela Hernandez collected two hits. Marco Gallegos, Isaac Ortiz, Gustavo Aguilar and Rachel Mc Cormick had one hit.
For Sunset Bar & Grill Alexandra Tran contributed six hits. Joe Hernandez, Gabriel Alvarado, Phil Lopez and Gustavo Gutierrez had two hits. Tyler Engel, Jose Barreras, Francisco Bravo and Rafa Silva all contributed one hit.
