Sheriff’s Log: Jan. 27 to Feb. 2, 2022

Editor’s note: The fol­low­­­ing is the Avalon Sheriff’s Sta­tion significant incidents report for the period of Jan. 27 to Feb. 2, 2022.

All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Many people who are arrested do not get prosecuted in the first place and many who are prosecuted do not get convicted.

January 27

• Deputies responded to Canyon Terrace regarding a violation of a court order call for service. The deputies contacted the victim who stated his ex wife was contacting him via telephone. The deputies authored a criminal report and the case is currently under investigation.

• Deputies issued a citation for a bicyclist not wearing a safety helmet. The violator will appear in Long Beach Court at a later date.

• Deputies responded to a trespassing call on the 300 block of Sumner Avenue. The caller stated his stepson is on the front yard and refusing to leave the location. The deputies contacted the disturbing party and advised him he was not welcomed at the location. He was cooperative and left the location.

• Deputies were contacted at the Sheriff’s Station by a person stating she had a “Secret Problem”. Upon interviewing the informant they were unable to determine if a crime had been committed. The information they received was obtained via a Facebook post and required further investigation by detectives.

January 28

• Deputies responded to a disturbance call on the 200 block of Crescent Avenue. The caller stated a man was at the location stating he was a guest at the hotel, however he did not possess a hotel room key. The deputies contacted the man and determined he was under the influence of alcohol and unable to care for himself. Juan Esparza, 21, of Arleta was arrested and booked at Avalon Sheriff’s Station.

• Deputies conducted a traffic stop at Crescent Avenue and Clarissa Avenue on a male adult bicyclist. The deputies issued the man a warning for riding an electric bike at a high rate of speed.

January 29

Deputies responded to a trespassing call at the “Community Church”. The informant wanted deputies to remind a male adult that he was not allowed on church property. The trespasser was the same male who was trespassing at his stepfather’s house. The deputies contacted the male and he left the location.

• Deputies at the Isthmus Pier warned a boat operator who was driving his dinghy and allowing children under the age of 12 to be on his boat without life jackets.

• Deputies received a disturbance call on Wrigley Terrace Road. The caller stated juveniles were throwing palm tree debris at passing vehicles. The deputies responded and were unable to locate the disturbing parties. The deputies did locate palm tree debris on the roadway.

They removed the debris in order to prevent any vehicle accidents.

• Deputies received an assault call in Avalon Harbor at mooring #8. The caller stated a male was assaulted by his son and suffered a head injury. The deputies conducted an investigation and determined the victim suffered a head laceration from being punched by his son. The suspect left the location on a small boat and was unable to be located. The case is under investigation by detectives.

January 30

• Deputies responded to Wrigley Road regarding a person hitting golf balls off the mountain. The caller was concerned the golf balls would strike someone on Lower Terrace. The deputies checked the location and were unable to locate the golfer.

• Deputies responded to the 100 block of Sumner Avenue regarding a business disturbance. The caller stated several adults were arguing inside the business. The deputies arrived and determined no crimes had been committed and the disturbing parties were arguing only.

January 31

• Deputies and the Fire Departments responded to a medical emergency on the 200 block of Whittley Avenue. He caller stated a female adult needed assistance. The female was contacted and transported to CIMC for further evaluation.
