On Friday, May 5, Islander Editor Dixie Redfearn, Islander Publisher Jon Remy and Orange County Neighborhood Newspapers’ Associate Publisher Steven Remery, will hold a “coffee with the Islander” event at the Bluewater Grill on Crescent Avenue at 11 a.m.

Come and meet us, ask questions, and give us an idea of what you would like to see in future issues of the newspaper. Catalina is an exciting and diverse community and we are looking to meeting as many residents as possible.

For The Islander

Get ready for Catalina’s most unique and fun music experience:  a concert on the water while floating in your dinghy in Cherry Cove.

Last year there were upwards of 150 dinghies filled with boaters from all over Southern California creating the largest raft up on record at the island.

Boaters came wanting to enjoy a magical evening of great music while floating on the water and they were not disappointed! The concert will start at 5 and end about 6:30 p.m.

Pictured ave are Avalon School valedictorians Harrison Hobbs, Jeniece Neville, and Justus Ramming.

The Santa Catalina Island Company is thrilled to introduce Catalina Falconry, an exciting new educational experience that provides an up close and personal experience with the centuries-old art of falconry at Descanso Beach Club. Master falconers will show falcons, hawks, and owls in their natural element during a 75-minute immersive demonstration.

Guests will watch these magnificent birds take flight, respond to their falconer’s call and dive at speeds of up to 100 mph.

My name is Ralph Morrow.  I am running for the office of Mayor.  I have held this position 4 times in the past and have served this town as a Councilmember twice. I am a retired business owner and property owner. I am running again for many of the reasons I began in City politics years ago.

Our water situation is critical. We are approaching further rationing and restrictions just before our busiest part of the year. We are not serving our residents and visitors to the level we should.
