US Women’s Soccer champs visit Catalina Island

The Women’s U.S. Soccer Team, recent World Cup champions, came over to the Island for the day on March 26 for a team building exercise.

They were divided into teams of three to four girls and went on a “scavenger hunt” type of race throughout Avalon—answering questions about the town.

They had lunch at the Avalon Grille then had the afternoon to explore the town before heading home.

The soccer team recently won its third FIFA Women’s World Cup, a historic event. The team is going to be honored with a ticker-tape parade in New York City today, Friday, July 17.

The U.S. Senate recognized the team earlier this week.

News reports say there has been an increased interest in girls soccer following the team’s victory.
