Straight Up Builders took on Sunset Bar & Grill in game one of the Catalina CoEd Softball League double header. Straight Up Builders started the game with a run, off three base hits. Sunset Bar & Grill woke up in the third inning and put together four base hits, a sacrifice fly, a double from Ryan Adkins and a triple from Francisco Bravo to score five runs.
Tyler Engel started the fourth inning with a triple for Straight Up Builders, but was left stranded. Sunset Bar & Grill added a run in the bottom of the inning off three base hits. Straight Up Builders had four base hits and a run in the fifth inning. Francisco
Bravo hit a double for Sunset Bar & Grill in the sixth inning but failed to advance. A quick three outs later and the game ended with the score Straight Up Builders 2, Sunset Bar & Grill 6.
For Straight Up Builders Tyler Engel, Julio Chavoya, Briana Morones and Alexa Morones all contributed two hits. Paul Daniel Romo, Dillon Gleber, Brandon Franco, Uriel Castillo, Gustavo Gutierrez, and Sergio Vallejo had one hit.
For Sunset Bar & Grill Francisco Bravo, Rafael Silva and Maddie Hiniker collected two hits. Julian Tejeda, Gabriel Alvarado, Ryan Adkins, Jose Merino, Ben Guzman, Jack Villagomez and Rosandra Hernandez contributed one hit.
Game two of the double header was between Leave it to Leo Handyman and Buoys & Gulls. Leave it to Leo Handyman put two runs up in the first off two base hits and a sacrifice fly. Buoys & Gulls tied it up in the second with two runs off two base hits and a double from Hugh Bevins.
Leave it to Leo Handyman regained the lead in the third with three runs off a base hit, a double from Aimee Casillas and a home run over the chain in right from Nestor Cubillas. Johnny Hernandez made a great catch in left center to deny J.D. Laflin an extra base hit in the bottom of the inning.
With that momentum, Leave it to Leo Handyman put together three base hits, doubles from Aimee Casillas and Robert Reyes, and home runs from Marco Gallegos and Luis Lazaro to bring home six.
Buoys & Gulls answered with the solo home run from Juan De La Cruz. Leave it to Leo Handyman kept the offense rolling in the fifth with five base hits and doubles from Marco Gallegos and Leo Aguilar to bring home another five runs.
This inning proved costly to Buoys & Gulls as J.D. Laflin came off the field during the inning with an apparent Achilles Heel injury. We wish J.D. the best possible outcome for this injury. The game ended with the score Buoys & Gulls 2, Leave it to Leo Handyman 16.
For Buoys & Gulls Juan De La Cruz and Rachel McCormick collected two hits. Chuy Sillas, Hugh Bevins, and Ron Bevins contributed one hit.
For Leave it to Leo Handyman Aimee Casillas collected four hits. Robert Reyes and Nestor Cubillas were three for three. Marco Gallegos, Luis Lazaro, Johnny Hernandez and Santiago Martinez contributed two hits. Phil Lopez and Leo Aguilar had one hit.
