The start of the third round of play broke the tied standings. Buoys & Gulls took on Sunset Bar & Grill in game one. Weston Leonhardi hit a double for Buoys & Gulls in the first, but was left at second. Buoys & Gulls scored two in the second off the two RBI home run from Ben Guzman.
Sunset Bar & Grill got on the board in the bottom half of the inning. Three base hits, an error and doubles from Juan Hernandez, Caitlin Lopez and Melissa Schafer brought home six.
Buoys & Gulls tied it up in the top of the third off three base hits and two errors. With a runner on, Gabriel Alvarado hit a ground rule double for Sunset Bar & Grill in the bottom of the third, but the runners were left stranded.
Buoys & Gulls took the lead in the top of the fourth inning using a walk and doubles from Jose Octavo and Hugh Bevins to score two. The lead switched back to Sunset Bar & Grill in the bottom of the inning when an error, three base hits and a double from Phil Lopez scored three.
Two base hits and a double from Tyler Engel brought home two runs for Sunset Bar & Grill in the fifth inning. In the sixth and final inning Sunset Bar & Grill turned a double play for the first two outs of the inning. With two runners on, a pop fly ended the game with the score Buoys & Gulls 8, Sunset Bar & Grill 11.
For Buoys & Gulls Weston Leonhardi was three for three. Jose Octavo collected two hits. Jack Villagomez, Ryan Adkins, Ben Guzman, Hugh Bevins, Edmundo Vega and Alexa Morones contributed one hit.
For Sunset Bar & Grill Phil Lopez, Gilbert Hernandez and Melissa Schafer collected two hits. Tyler Engel, Gabriel Alvarado, Francisco Bravo, Juan Hernandez, Carmelo Lazaro, Sergio Vallejo, Elias Romero and Caitlin Lopez had one hit.
Game two was between teams that were tied for first place – Bravo’s Landscaping and Straight Up Builders. Bravo’s Landscaping was up first and opened with doubles from Marco Gallegos, Robert Reyes and Luis Lazaro to score two.
Straight Up Builders answered back with two base hits, a walk and a triple from Nestor Cubillas to tie it up at two. Stephanie Martinez made a great catch in right center to end the inning and deny the extra base hit.
Straight Up Builders took the lead in the bottom of the second inning. Two base hits, a double from James Hall and a triple from Gustavo Aguilar brought home four. Robert Reyes made an amazing catch coming from behind the runner at third to record the second out.
Bravo’s Landscaping tied the game in the top of the third. With two outs, Marco Gallegos hit a solo home run. A base hit and a double from Stephanie Martinez were followed by the three RBI home run from Luis Lazaro.
Straight Up Builders promptly broke the tie in the bottom of the inning. Five base hits and a double from Brandon Franco had five cross the plate. Bravo’s Landscaping kept it close with two runs in the fourth off the two RBI home run from Leo Aguilar. Straight Up Builders’ James Hall hit a solo inside-the-park home run in the bottom of the inning. Marco Gallegos hit a double for Bravo’s Landscaping in the fifth, but was left at second.
In the top of the sixth inning Bravo’s Landscaping had a huge rally. A walk, four base hits, doubles from Marco Gallegos, Leo Aguilar, Mario Jimenez, Aimee Casillas and Stephanie Martinez and home runs from Luis Lazaro and Sebastian Sanchez brought home a total of eleven more. Straight Up Builders got their last at bat, but left two runners on to end the game. Final score Straight Up Builders 12, Bravo’s Landscaping 19.
For Straight Up Builders Nestor Cubillas and Uriel Castillo were three for three. Chela Hernandez also collected three hits. James Hall and Julio Chavoya collected two hits. Chuy Sillas, Brandon Franco, Juan De La Cruz, Bart Glass, Gustavo Aguilar, Maddie Hiniker and Marisa Morones all contributed one hit.
For Bravo’s Landscaping Marco Gallegos and Luis Lazaro were four for four. Stephanie Martinez had three hits. Robert Reyes, Sebastian Sanchez, Leo Aguilar and Aimee Casillas collected two hits. Mario Jimenez, Brayan Aguilar and Santiago Martinez contributed one hit.
