The final game of the Catalina Co-Ed Softball season was played for the tournament title between Buoys & Gulls and Straight Up Builders. Buoys & Gulls was up first, and promptly had two base hits and doubles from Weston Leonhardi and Ryan Adkins to score three.
Straight Up Builders answered back with seven runs off two walks, two errors, two base hits and a double from Uriel Castillo. Straight Up Builders added four more runs in the bottom of the second off four base hits and a sacrifice fly ball.
Jose Barreras hit a solo inside-the-park home run for Buoys & Gulls in the third inning. James Hall answered with a two RBI inside-the-park home run for Straight Up Builders in the bottom of the inning.
J.D. Laflin hit a double for Buoys & Gulls in the fourth and later scored. A walk, two Base hits and a double from Julio Chavoya brought home two more runs for Straight Up Builders in the bottom of the fourth. Both teams were scoreless in the fifth.
Buoys & Gulls J.D. Laflin hit a solo home run in the sixth. In the seventh and final inning Buoys & Gulls used two base hits and an error to score a run, then a double play ended the game. Final score Buoys & Gulls 7, Straight Up Builders 15. Congratulations to Straight Up Builders for winning the tournament!
For Buoys & Gulls J.D. Laflin was three for three. Weston Leonhardi collected two hits. Jack Villagomez, Ryan Adkins, Edmundo Vega, Jose Barreras and Alexa Morones all had one hit.
For Straight Up Builders Chuy Sillas, Nestor Cubillas, Uriel Castillo, Julio Chavoya, Selina Morones, Marisa Morones and Maddie Hiniker all collected two hits. James Hall, Bart Glass and Chela Hernandez contributed one hit.
