Straight Up Builders wins league title

The final two league games of the Catalina Co-Ed Winter season did not disappoint. First up was Luau Larry’s vs. Bravo’s Landscaping. Luau Larry’s scored four runs on the two RBI home runs from Gabriel Alvarado and Luis Lazaro.

Bravo’s Landscaping answered with a solo home run from Marco Gallegos, followed by a base hit and a triple from Melissa Schafer. Nick Morones followed with a two RBI home run. Luis Lazaro came out of nowhere in left field to rob Cailtin Lopez of the extra base hit. A total of four crossed the plate.

Luau Larry’s had three solo home runs from Julian Tejeda, Gabriel Alvarado and Luis Lazaro in the second inning. In the third inning Bravo’s Landscaping turned a double play to end the top of the inning. In the bottom of the inning Bravo’s Landscaping used an error, three base hits and a sacrifice fly to score three.

Julian Tejeda hit a triple and scored for Luau Larry’s in the fourth. Bravo’s Landscaping came alive in the bottom of the fourth, cranking out a walk, a base hit, a triple from Enrique Bravo, doubles from Marco Gallegos, Jack Villagomez and Caitlin Lopez, and a three RBI home run from Nick Morones to score seven.

Bravo’s Landscaping added four more in the fifth off a solo home run from Nick Morones and four base hits. Luau Larry’s rallied in the sixth with five base hits, an error and a double from Leo Aguilar to score six. Time expired, and the game ended with the score Luau Larry’s 14, Bravo’s Landscaping 18.

For Luau Larry’s Julian Tejeda and Luis Lazaro were four for four. Gabriel Alvarado had three hits. Leo Aguilar and James Hall collected two hits, while Rafael Silva and Tiffany Credle contributed one hit.

For Bravo’s Landscaping Nick Morones was four for four. Marco Gallegos, Jack Villagomez and Melissa Schafer contributed three hits. Enrique Bravo and Caitlin Lopez had two hits. Gilbert Hernandez and Viktor Martinez collected one hit.

Game two was a close contest between Straight Up Builders and Coyote Joe’s. Coyote Joe’s got on the board first in the bottom of the first inning when back to back doubles from Daniel Paradisi and Nestor Cubillas were followed by two base hits to score two.

Straight Up Builders rallied in the second with six base hits, a double from Chuy Sillas and a three RBI inside the park home run from Alex Herrera to score a total of six. Coyote Joe’s tied it in the bottom of the third with four runs off two base hits, a double from J.D. Laflin, a triple from Francisco Bravo, and a two RBI home run from Daniel Paradisi.

Straight Up Builders regained the lead in the fourth when Chuy Sillas hit a double and scored on the triple from Selina Morones. Straight Up Builders put four more on the board in the fifth off three base hits, a double from Alvin Veal and a two RBI inside the park home run from Alex Herrera.

Coyote Joe’s kept pace with four in the bottom of the inning off a base hit, doubles from J.D. Laflin and Rachel Mc Cormick, and a triple from Ron Bevins. Straight Up Builders had a two RBI homerun from Juan De La Cruz to start the sixth inning. A walk, three base hits and doubles from Alvin Veal and Alex Herrera added up to a total of five runs scored.

With time expired Coyote Joe’s got their last at bat. A fielder’s choice was followed by doubles from Nestor Cubillas and J.D. Laflin to score two. A fly ball to left ended the game with the score Coyote Joe’s 12, Straight Up Builders 16.

For Coyote Joe’s Nestor Cubillas was four for four. Francisco Bravo was three for three. J.D. Laflin and Rachel Mc Cormick also had three hits. Daniel Paradisi, Ron Bevins and Santiago Martinez contributed two hits. Hugh Bevins collected one hit.

For Straight Up Builders Alvin Veal and Selina Morones collected four hits. Chuy Sillas, Juan De La Cruz, Briana Morones and Alex Herrera had three hits. Brandon Franco contributed two hits. Bart Glass had one hit.
