The beginning of the third round of league play in the Catalina CoEd Softball League has the top three teams within a point of each other. Game one had Buoys & Gulls taking on Sunset Bar & Grill. Julian Tejeda opened the game with a double for Sunset Bar & Grill. He later scored on a base hit.
Buoys & Gulls answered with three runs off two errors and three base hits. Sunset Bar & Grill tied it up in the second with two runs off a base hit and doubles from Ben Guzman and Maddie Hiniker. Sunset Bar & Grill took the lead in the third when four runs scored off two base hits, a triple from Rafael Silva and a two RBI inside-the-park home run from Jose Octavo.
Sunset Bar & Grill kept the offense going in the fourth inning. Two base hits, a double from Jose Merino, a triple from Ben Guzman and a combination of throwing errors brought home five more. Defense ruled the next three innings, and the game ended with the score Buoys & Gulls 3, Sunset Bar & Grill 13.
For Buoys & Gulls Juan De La Cruz contributed three hits. Hugh Bevins and Missy Schafer collected two hits. Joey Yakubec, Ron Bevins and Ulices Alvarado had one hit.
For Sunset Bar & Grill Jose Merino was three for three. Maddie Hiniker also collected three hits. Julian Tejeda, Jose Octavo, Francisco Bravo, Ben Guzman, Jack Villagomez and Rafael Silva contributed two hits. Gabriel Alvarado had one hit.
Game two had Leave it to Leo Handyman taking on Straight Up Builders. Nestor Cubillas opened the game with a triple for Leave it to Leo Handyman. A sacrifice fly ball brought him home. Two base hits followed for another run.
Leave it to Leo Handyman added four more in the second off a walk, two base hits and doubles from Johnny Hernandez and Phil Lopez. Straight Up Builders answered with the solo home run from Tyler Engel.
The fourth inning saw three more runs come home for Leave it to Leo Handyman off two base hits and doubles from Maddie Hiniker and Renton MInuto. Straight Up Builders added another run off the RBI double from Sebastian Sanchez. Two base hits and a double from Sergio Vallejo brought home two runs for Straight Up Builders in the fifth.
Doubles from Marco Gallegos, Luiz Lazaro and Johnny Hernandez, along with a base hit added three more to the score for Leave it to Leo Handyman. Neither team scored in the seventh. Final score, Straight Up Builders 4, Leave it to Leo Handyman 12.
For Straight Up Builders Uriel Castillo and Gustavo Gutierrez were two for two. Sebastian Sanchez, Tyler Engel, Sergio Vallejo, Alexa Morones and Brittany Randall collected one hit.
For Leave it to Leo Handyman Maddie HIniker collected five hits. Johnny Hernandez was three for three. Nestor Cubillas, Luis Lazaro and Renton Minuto contributed two hits. Leo Aguilar, Marco Gallegos, Phil Lopez and Santiago Martinez had one hit.
