Standings tight as softball enters final game

Bravo’s Landscaping, Straight Up Builders in virtual tie with one game left to play

As the league heads into the final games of the season, the League Championship is still up for grabs. The first game featured Sunset Bar & Grill and first place Bravo’s Landscaping.

Bravo’s Landscaping got on the board first in the bottom of the first inning when Marco Gallegos hit a double and later scored. In the second inning Sunset Bar & Grill took advantage of an error and five base hits to score three.

Bravo’s Landscaping kept it close with a run in the bottom of the inning when Stephanie Martinez hit a double and later scored. Melissa Schafer made a great diving catch at second for Sunset Bar & Grill to end the inning. Sunset Bar & Grill took the momentum into the third inning when a walk and base hit were followed by the three RBI home run from Tyler Engel.

Bravo’s Landscaping again scored a run in the bottom of the inning. Tyler Engel made a great dive to the left to catch a hard line drive from Luis Lazaro to end the threat from Bravo’s Landscaping. Bravo’s Landscaping took the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning. A walk, an error, two base hits, a double from Robert Reyes and a two-run home run from Marco Gallegos brought home a total of four more. Stephanie Martinez had the defensive play of the sixth inning with her great running catch in right center to deny Omar Aguilar an extra base hit.

Sunset Bar & Grill had their last at bat down by a run. With one out, Tyler Engel hit a solo homerun to tie it up. Two base hits were followed by the RBI double from Francisco Bravo to take the lead. Bravo’s Landscaping got their last chance in the bottom of the seventh. With two out, Marco Gallegos hit a double and scored on the double from Robert Reyes to tie it up. The third out followed, and the game ended in a tie, 8-8.

For Bravo’s Landscaping Marco Gallegos and Robert Reyes were four for four. Brayan Aguilar and Stephanie Martinez had two hits. Sebastian Sanchez and Santiago Martinez collected one hit.

For Sunset Bar & Grill Tyler Engel, Gabriel Alvarado and Gilbert Hernandez collected two hits. Francisco Bravo, Juan Hernandez, Phil Lopez, Carmelo Lazaro, Caitlin Lopez, Melissa Schafer and Teagan Machado contributed one hit.

Game two had Buoys & Gulls facing off against Straight Up Builders. Straight Up Builders was on the board first in the bottom of the first with two runs off two base hits and a double from Juan De La Cruz. Straight Up Builders added another run in the second. In the third inning Jose Barreras hit a double for Buoys & Gulls, but two runners were left stranded. Straight Up Builders had four base hits and a three-run home run from Nestor Cubillas to bring home a total of five in the bottom of the inning. Buoys & Gulls got back on the board in the fourth with a solo inside-the-park home run from Jack Villagomez. Jose Octavo followed with a double and scored.

Straight Up Builders didn’t let up in the bottom of the inning. James Hall had a two RBI inside-the-park home run. Paul Daniel Romo later hit an RBI double. Buoys & Gulls scored another run in the sixth when Jose Barreras hit a double and later scored. The game ended with the score Buoys & Gulls 5, Straight Up Builders 14.

For Buoys & Gulls Rachel McCormick had three hits. J.D. Laflin, Hugh Bevins and Jack Villagomez collected two hits. Ryan Adkins contributed one hit.

For Straight Up Builders Nestor Cubillas and Chuy Sillas were three for three. James Hall, Gustavo Aguilar, Julio Chavoya and Marisa Morones contributed two hits. Juan De La Cruz, Uriel Castillo, Paul Daniel Romo and Selina Morones had one hit.
