Spring Flowers of Catalina Island

Catalina Island is known for its beautiful sunsets, fantastic underwater aquatic life, sandy beach afternoons and romantic harbor side dinners. Spring time on Catalina Island is known as a special time of flowering beauty that covers parts of the Island with a plethora of colorful blooms. Driving or hiking along Catalina’s Summit Road is a good place to observe many of the beautiful springtime flowers. In addition, there is a spectacular Blue Hibiscus in bloom in front of the Harbor Reef Restaurant at Two Harbors.

On the North side of the China Wall, overlooking Whites Landing, can be seen the Yellow California Island Poppy in abundance. These flowers grow only on the rocky hills of the Channel Islands. Near Two Harbors on the north side of the road is a grove of flowers containing Indian Paint Brush, Brush Sun Flower, Lupins and Brodiaea. The delicate white and light purple Mariposa Lili can be found beside the road to Little Harbor past the airport turn off.

As the weather turns warmer these lovely flowers will be gone very soon. Tours to the airport from Avalon by the Catalina Island Company, Catalina Island Conservancy or Catalina Adventure Tours will allow folks to enjoy this Catalina Island beauty for a little while longer.
