Single-elimination tournament closes softball season

The final league contests for Catalina CoEd Softball determined placement for the single elimination tournament that completes the season.

Game one was between Straight up Builders and Coyote Joes. Straight Up Builders was first up to bat, and promptly used two walks, a base hit, a double from Stephen Marcy and a triple from Ryan Hinkley to bring home three.

Coyote Joes Francisco Bravo opened with a double and later scored.

In the second inning Coyote Joes took the lead with two walks, a base hit and a double from Jorge Leon to bring home three runs.

Coyote Joes added another run in the third when J.D. Laflin hit a double and scored.

Straight up Builders tied it up in the fourth when Ryan Hinkley opened the inning with a triple, followed by a homerun from Brandon Franco.

In the bottom of the inning with two runners on, Straight Up Builders turned a triple play!

Fly to shortstop, toss to second base to catch that runner, then a throw to first before that runner returned to the bag. Well done Straight Up Builders!

Taking that momentum into the fifth inning, Straight Up Builders rallied to score five and take the lead off five base hits and a three run homerun from Ryan Hinkley.

Coyote Joes got their last at bat and Enrique Bravo started it off with a triple and later scored. That proved to be the only run of the inning, and the game ended with the score Coyote Joes 6, Straight Up Builders 10.

Game two

For Coyote Joes J.D. Laflin and Alexandria Tran had two hits. Francisco Bravo, Hugh Bevins, Ron Bevins, Jorge Leon, Enrique Bravo and Marisol Perez all contributed one hit. For Straight Up Builders Stephen Marcy, Ryan Hinkley and Brandon Franco were all three for three. Bart Glass, Dewitt Finley, Amanda Younger and Laura Priest all had one hit.

Game two had Hamilton Cove Real Estate facing off against Lobster Trap. Hamilton Cove Real Estate started off with hot bats, with four base hits, doubles from Robert Reyes, Luis Lazzaro and Omar Aguilar to have six cross the plate. Lobster Traps Jose Octavo opened with an inside the park homerun. The offense continued in the second inning for Hamilton Cove Real Estate.

This time six base hits and a double from Luis Lazzaro scored five runs. Lobster Trap answered with two base hits and a double from Joe Talsky to bring home two.

Hamilton Cove Real Estate had two more score off the inside the park homerun from Rosandra Hernandez in the third.

In the top of the fourth, Robert Reyes hit a double for Hamilton Cove Real Estate, but Lobster Traps Margery Williams made a great dig at first base to end the inning and keep Hamilton Cove Real Estate scoreless. Lobster Traps Joe Talsky hit another double and scored on the sacrifice fly in the bottom off the inning.

Top of five, and Hamilton Cove Real Estate went back to offense.

Six base hits, and doubles from Leo Aguilar, Luis Lazzaro and Robert Reyes had nine runs come home.

With time expired Lobster Trap got their last at bat. Jose Octavo hit a shot to left, but Luis Lazzaro came out of nowhere to secure the catch. The game ended with the score Lobster Trap 4, Hamilton Cove Real Estate 22.

For Lobster Trap Joe Talsky collected three hits. Paul Daniel Romo had two hits. Jose Octavo, Efrain Moreno, Kyle Ostentoski and Liza Vahai contributed one hit. For Hamilton Cove Real Estate Robert Reyes was four for four. Gabriel Alvarado, Leo Aguilar and Luis Lazzaro were three for three. Nick Morones, Omar Aguilar, Gustavo Aguilar, Rosandra Hernandez and LeeAnn Little contributed two hits. Carlos Martinez, Reed Woodyard and Aimee Casillas had one hit.

Forfeit

Game three saw Chet’s Hardware only have six players, so they forfeited to Bravo’s Landscaping.
