Editor’s note: The following is the Avalon Sheriff’s Station significant incidents report for the week of Aug. 21 to Aug. 27.
All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
Many people who are arrested do not get prosecuted in the first place and many who are prosecuted do not get convicted.
August 21
• Deputies arrested Ines Hernandez from Ontario on suspicion of being under the influence of narcotics (stimulant) in the 100 block of Sumner Avenue.
August 22
• Deputies arrested David Garcia from Avalon on suspicion of possessing a controlled substance without a prescription, possession of an open container of marijuana in a vehicle, possession of marijuana while being under 21 years old, and driving without a driver’s license.
August 23
• Deputies responded to the 900 block of Avalon Canyon Road regarding a traffic collision. A motorist made a U-turn too quickly, the passenger, a 43-year-old female Arizona resident was not wearing her seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle. She suffered life-threatening injuries and was transported to a hospital on the mainland.
August 24
• Deputies received a call of a loud party in the 200 block of Crescent Avenue. The party was ending as the deputies arrived. No crim were violated.
August 25
• Deputies received a call at the Casino Dive Park where a victim reported someone stole his scuba diving watch. Deputies were unable to locate the watch.
August 26
• Deputies are saddened to report, the 43-year-old female Arizona resident that fell out of a golf cart on August 23, 2019, succumbed to her injuries. The investigation is ongoing. (Editor’s note: According to Capt. John Hocking, when the investigation is complete, the Sheriff’s Department will present the case to the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office.)
August 27
• Deputies received a 911 hang up call in the 150 block of Sumner Avenue. When deputies arrived, they learned a housekeeper accidently dialed 911. There was no emergency.
Safety Note
Please wear your seatbelt when in a golf cart or any motor vehicle. It could save your life. Deputies will be increasing their enforcement efforts on motorists/passengers that are not wearing them.
