Sheriff’s Log: published Nov. 15, 2019

The following is the Avalon Sheriff’s Station significant incidents report for the week of Nov. 6, 2019 to Nov. 12, 2019.

All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Many people who are arrested do not get prosecuted in the first place and many who are prosecuted do not get convicted.

November 6

• Deputies responded to Avalon High School regarding an investigation involving a student detained by school staff for allegedly smoking marijuana on school grounds.

The investigation is ongoing and deputies are working with school officials to take a proactive stance regarding several recent similar investigations and to educate students of the dangers pertaining to narcotic use.

November 7

• Deputies responded to the 200 block of Sumner Avenue regarding a male possibly harassing children. Deputies discovered the male was asking children to pick up trash thrown on the sidewalk by passing children.

November 8

• Deputies responded to the Joe Machado Field to provide extra security as tensions rose between players of the Avalon Lancers and the Riverside County Education Academy during the high school football game.

November 9

• Deputies responded to the 300 block of Crescent Avenue regarding a business dispute and possible criminal threat investigation. The investigation revealed no crime was committed and the dispute was settled peacefully.

November 10

• Deputies received an anonymous call regarding a disturbance on the 100 block of Catalina Avenue. Deputies responded and found no indication of a disturbance in the area.

November 11

• Deputies responded to the 300 block of Tremont Street regarding a welfare check of a local resident for family members. The resident was contacted and found safe and healthy.

November 12

• Deputies conducted additional traffic enforcement within the community based on citizen complaints of unsafe driving. Several local residents and visitors were cited for moving traffic violations.
