Editor’s note: The following is the Avalon Sheriff’s Station significant incidents report for the week of Sept. 18 to Sept. 24.
All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
Many people who are arrested do not get prosecuted in the first place and many who are prosecuted do not get convicted.
September 18
• Deputies responded to a fight call in the 300 block of Metropole Avenue. Two family members were involved in an argument. No criminal laws were violated.
September 19
• Deputies received a call after two fifth-grade students were involved in a fight at the school. Nether juvenile suffered any injuries. A criminal report was written and both juveniles were counseled.
September 20
• Deputies received an alarm call at the Trianna Apartments. The fire department and deputies responded. The alarm was malfunctioning and had to be reset.
September 21
• Deputies received a call of a lost/stolen cell phone in the 100 block of Clarissa Avenue. Deputies used “Find My iPhone” and located the cell phone. The cell phone was returned to the owner.
September 22
• Deputies responded to a call where a victim had been assaulted and was laying in the alley in the 100 block of Sumner Avenue. The victim was uncooperative and would not give the deputies any information about the assault. He was transported to the hospital with minor injuries.
September 23
• Deputies arrested Daniel Mulgado from Avalon on suspicion of grand theft and vandalism by doing the following while at work: stealing over $9,000 in luggage/items, and damaging some of the electronic devices with bleach in fear that the devices were able to track his location. The incident occurred in the 500 block of Crescent Avenue.
September 24
• A victim reported he was trying to purchase an item on the internet when he was scammed out of $1,800. The victim was asked to purchase $1,800 in Ebay gift cards for the item.
The victim sent photographs of the gift cards’ confirmation numbers to the suspect. The suspect never sent the item and used the Ebay gift cards by using the confirmation numbers. The investigation is ongoing.
Safety Note
If you find yourself inside a store purchasing gift cards, stop and ask yourself, “Do I know the person who I am purchasing these for?”
If you do not know the person, you should probably not purchase them. Suspects commonly use gift cards as part of their scams.
