Sheriff’s Log: published Friday, Aug. 2, 2019

Editor’s note: The following is the Avalon Sheriff’s Station significant incidents report for the week of July 24 to July 30, 2019.

All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Many people who are arrested do not get prosecuted in the first place and many who are prosecuted do not get convicted.

July 24

• Deputies and first responders responded to a diver that stopped breathing at the Casino Dive Park. After CPR was conducted the man was transported to the Avalon helipad and flown to a hospital on the mainland. The man’s wife, who was scuba diving with him, was transported by deputies to their hotel to collect their pertinent items and flew with her husband to the hospital. The man made a full recovery.

July 25

• Deputies arrested Donald Seymour from Long Beach on suspicion of being drunk in public and drinking alcohol in public. The suspect was reportedly causing a disturbance at a hotel in the 200 block of Crescent Avenue at the time of his arrest.

July 26

• Deputies again arrested Donald Seymour from Long Beach, this time it was for allegedly stealing a backpack/credit card, using the credit card to purchase a boat ticket, using the credit card to purchase cigarettes/soda, stealing the tip jar from a restaurant on the pier, leaving a restaurant failing to pay for his bar tab and stealing tip money from the same restaurant. He was arrested as he tried to use the boat ticket he purchased with the stolen credit card.

July 27

• Deputies at Two Harbors responded to a minor boat collision. At a slow speed one boat collided into another cause minor damage to both boats. There were no injuries.

July 28

• Deputies issued a motorist a citation for illegally parking a golf cart at Clarissa Avenue and Crescent Avenue, and storing a large amount of her personal property on the sidewalk blocking access to passing pedestrians.

July 29

• Deputies were called to the 100 block of Sumner Avenue regarding an underage female using a fake California Driver’s License to get into a bar. Deputies wrote a crime report and will present the case to the District Attorney’s Office. The female had left the bar prior to the deputies’ arrival.

July 30

• Deputies received a call of someone at the Holiday Inn hotel that would not come out of the ladies’ restroom for hours. Deputies entered the ladies room and arrested a male, Jesus Meison, from Avalon, on suspicion of being under the influence of controlled substance.

• Deputies issued a 21 year-old-man a citation for smoking marijuana at Crescent Avenue and Sumner Avenue.

Safety Note

On Aug. 6, personnel from the Avalon Sheriff’s Station will be at Crescent Avenue and Sumner Avenue for “National Night Out.” Sheriff’s Department personnel will be passing out crime prevention information along with earthquake disaster preparation information. Come out and join us.
