Sheriff’s Log: Oct. 9 to Oct. 15, 2019

Editor’s note: The following is the Avalon Sheriff’s Station significant incidents report for the week of Oct. 9 to Oct. 15, 2019. All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Many people who are arrested do not get prosecuted in the first place and many who are prosecuted do not get convicted.

October 9

• Deputies responded to a call where juveniles were not wearing helmets and riding motorized scooters. The juveniles had left the area prior to the deputies’ arrival.

• Deputies received three separate calls about an Avalon resident allegedly causing disturbances at three different businesses in Avalon throughout the day. No criminal laws had been violated.

October 10

• Deputies responded to a traffic collision at Pebbly Village Road. A visitor to the island collided into a fence and half of the rental golf cart went into the backyard of a residence. There were no injuries.

October 11

• Deputies responded to a disturbance call in the 300 block of Crescent Avenue. Deputies arrested Rebecca Younekian from Avalon on suspicion of biting a victim in the arm during an argument.

• Deputies responded to Pebbly Village regarding a traffic collision. A motorist lost control of his golf cart and drove through a large residential fence and half way into a backyard. There were no injuries. Alcohol and drugs did not play a part in this accident.

October 12

• Deputies received a call that several customers were arguing and challenging people to fight in the 300 block of Crescent Avenue. Deputies contacted the individuals and determined no crimes occurred and the disturbing parties left the business.

October 13

• Deputies from Two Harbors and the U.S. Coast Guard received complaints about a person living on a sailboat. The informant was concerned the boat was not safe since it did not have a motor or sails attached. The vessel was in violation of several safety laws. The owner was advised to comply with the safety laws before their next outing.

October 14

• Deputies responded to a hit and run on Tremont Street. A vehicle collided into a fence causing damage and left the scene. There were no known injuries. Detectives are in the process of identifying the vehicle and the driver.

October 15

• Deputies arrested Vincent Munoz from Avalon on suspicion of being under the influence of an illegal controlled substance. Deputies also arrested Isaac Rios from Avalon on suspicion of driving without a valid driver’s license. Both arrests occurred at 100 St. Catherine Way.

Safety Note

Any child under the age of 18 in California must wear a helmet when riding or operating a scooter, bicycle, roller skates or skateboard. California law requires that all vehicles must be equipped with an adequate muffler to prevent excessive noise from the exhaust system.
