Sheriff’s Log: Oct. 30 to Nov. 5, 2019

The following is the Avalon Sheriff’s Station significant incidents report for the week of Oct. 30 to Nov. 5, 2019.

All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Many people who are arrested do not get prosecuted in the first place and many who are prosecuted do not get convicted.

October 30

• Deputies responded to Avalon High School regarding a possible threat to students reported by school officials. Deputies and school officials conducted a thorough investigation and threat assessment into the entire incident and found no evidence of a crime.

October 31

• Deputies participated in a station pumpkin carving contest where the pumpkins were displayed in front of Avalon Sheriff’s Station and judged by the local trick or treaters. The winning pumpkin displayed the “headless buffalo-man” representing the legendary buffalo of Catalina Island.

November 1

• Deputies responded to the 100 block of Sumner Avenue regarding a juvenile riding a motorized dirt bike on the sidewalk. Deputies were unable to locate the juvenile upon their arrival.

November 2

• Deputies responded to the 300 block of Sumner Avenue regarding a female allegedly given a beverage that was possibly drugged with an unknown substance. The investigation is ongoing.

November 3

• Deputies responded to the intersection of Crescent Avenue and Whitley Avenue regarding a traffic accident involving a pedestrian. The pedestrian was treated and released with minor injuries.

November 4

• Deputies responded to Avalon High School regarding an investigation involving two students detained by school staff for allegedly smoking marijuana on school grounds. The investigation is ongoing.

November 5

• Deputies responded to the Cabrillo Mole regarding an alleged assault between two brothers visiting the island. One male was treated and released with minor injuries and both parties returned to the cruise ship without further incident.
