The following is the Avalon’s Sheriff’s Stations significant incidents report for the period of Oct. 3 to Oct. 9, 2024. All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
Many people who are arrested do not get prosecuted in the first place and many who are prosecuted do not get convicted.
October 5
- Deputies responded to the Pleasure Pier regarding a possible disturbance. They met deputies from Two Harbors who transported a man from the Isthmus to Avalon. They stated the man had a little too much rum at Buccaneer Days and he was not fit for a pirate’s life. The man met a friend in Avalon and called it a night.
- Deputies responded to Two Harbors for a suspicious call. The caller stated she received a text message from her mom who was staying on a boat with her boyfriend and believed she was in danger. The deputies located the woman who stated she was intoxicated when she texted her daughter. The woman said she was safe and her boyfriend has never been physical with her. Sounds like it was the alcohol talking.
- Deputies responded to a disturbance on Chimes Tower Road. The caller stated he could hear a man hitting a woman in one of the hotel rooms. The deputies went to the room and contacted a female adult. The woman told deputies nothing was wrong and there was no evidence or visible signs of injuries.
October 6
- Deputies responded to a disturbance call on Clarissa Avenue. The caller stated 2 men were arguing on the street at it was 2:45 in the morning. The witness stated he believed one of the men was carrying a knife and the arguing was escalating. The deputies contacted the man with the knife and detained him pending an investigation. During their investigation, they determined the man was intoxicated and unable to care for himself. Ruben Mulgado, 41, of Avalon was arrested on suspicion of being drunk in public and booked at Avalon Sheriff’s Station.
October 7
- A sergeant on patrol observed a young man riding an electric motorcycle at Sumner and Beacon. He conducted a traffic stop and warned the driver for a vehicle code violation. The sergeant had the young man walk his bike home.
October 8
- Deputies were contacted by a resident who located an abandoned safe on Chimes Tower Road. The safe was recovered and checked by deputies who determined it was empty. The safe was booked into evidence and an illegal dumping report was written. One man’s trash is another man’s treasure did not apply.
