The Avalon High boys volleyball team traveled to Huntington Beach on March 1, to compete in the Liberty Christian Tournament. Despite having attended the tournament for four consecutive years, the Lancers had never emerged victorious – until now.
The Lancers began the tournament with a slow start, losing 2-1 to Southlands Christian. They bounced back with two consecutive 2-1 wins, against Calvary Chapel/Downey and Acaciawood. In the semifinals, the Lancers faced Southlands Christian again and secured a win.
In the championship game, the Lancers defeated the previously unbeaten Trinity Classical Academy, 25-23, 26-24. Outside hitter, Jacob Mello, was named Tournament MVP, while Aaron Meza (setter), Erick Madriz (opposite hitter), and Matthew De La Rosa (middle blocker) received All-Tournament Honors.
The Lancers’ next home match will be on March 15, at 2 p.m. where they will face Southlands Christian in a league match.
